As wildfire smoke affects our area, please remember that the air quality impacts our pets just as it impacts us. 🐾

When smoke levels are unhealthy:
• Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
• Limit walks, playtime, and strenuous exercise outside.
• Make sure fresh water is always available.
• Keep windows and doors closed, and use air filtration if possible.
• Watch for signs of smoke irritation, including coughing, difficulty breathing, excessive panting, eye irritation, weakness, or unusual lethargy.

Pets with heart or lung disease, senior pets, puppies, kittens, and flat-faced breeds (such as Bulldogs, Pugs, and Persian cats) are especially vulnerable to poor air quality.

If your pet is showing signs of respiratory distress or you have concerns about their health, please contact Eagle River Animal Hospital right away. If your pet is experiencing severe difficulty breathing, seek emergency veterinary care immediately.

We know everyone wants to enjoy the outdoors, but until air quality improves, the safest place for your furry family members is indoors.

🌡️ Heat Advisory Reminder! 🐾

The heat is on! During a heat advisory, our pets are at risk for heatstroke in just minutes.

☀️ Keep walks short and stick to the early morning or evening.
💧 Provide plenty of fresh, cool water.
🌳 Make sure your pets have access to shade or air conditioning.
🐾 Remember: if the pavement is too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.
🚗 Never leave a pet in a parked vehicle—even for a minute.

Watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, or collapse. If you suspect your pet is overheating, move them to a cool area and contact a veterinarian immediately.

🇺🇸 Holiday Hours Update 🇺🇸

Tomorrow, Eagle River Animal Hospital will be one of the few veterinary clinics in our area that will be open.

While we are committed to helping as many pets as possible, we ask for your patience and understanding. With many veterinary clinics closed, we expect an extremely busy day.

Our doctors and staff will do everything we can to care for as many patients as time and staffing allow. However, there will be many pet owners we will need to direct to an emergency hospital or another veterinary clinic that is open. This is not because we don't want to help, but because we want every pet to receive timely medical care.

If your pet is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, or if we are unable to accommodate your pet, we will recommend that you contact one of the emergency clinics listed below asap.

We appreciate your kindness, patience, and understanding as our team works hard to care for pets throughout the holiday.
