Still deciding whether to book that first visit? Here's what actually happens, so there's nothing to be nervous about.

Before you walk in, your provider has already read your paperwork and gotten familiar with your history and your goals. You're not starting from zero.

At that first appointment, you sit down one on one and tell your story. When things started. What you've tried. What hasn't worked. If you've been told your labs are "normal" while you still feel awful, this is where someone finally digs deeper. Bring any old lab work if you have it.

From there we build a lab panel made for you, whether that's gut health, hormones, toxins, or neurotransmitters. We might bring in a functional dietitian, and we'll likely start you on supplements right away so you're not waiting weeks to feel better.

No two care plans look the same, because no two people are the same.

If you've been putting this off, this is your sign. You deserve answers, not guesses.

Sometimes the biggest wins aren't lab results. They're the everyday things you finally have the energy to finish.

Heather Lucas, MSN, FNP-C shares a story from a follow-up visit with a postmenopausal patient on testosterone therapy. Mid-appointment, she turned her camera toward the window and pointed at a deck in her backyard.

An eight year project she'd never had the motivation to finish. After starting testosterone, it was done.

This is what optimized hormones can look like in real life. Not just numbers on a page, but energy and follow through.

In this episode, Heather Lucas, MSN, FNP-C explains why the real driver behind PCOS isn't testosterone at all. It's metabolic dysfunction and insulin resistance, which leads to ovarian dysfunction, which is what actually gets labeled as PCOS.

Here's the problem: women diagnosed with PCOS are often taught that testosterone is bad for their bodies. So years later, when testosterone naturally declines and they need support, that conversation starts from a place of fear instead of facts.

Understanding the root cause changes everything about how it's treated.

Call me crazy but I think we should demand both active and inactive ingredients to be listed on all prescription medication bottles. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ Prometrium is indeed a bioidentical hormone but the inactive ingredients- yuck! I promise itโ€™s with the effort and litttttle bit of extra ๐Ÿ’ฐ to ensure a clean product. Ask for SR progesterone capsules from a local or mail order compounding pharmacy. Share this with a friend on progesterone that needs to be in the know! ๐Ÿฉต

Nobody tells you insurance won't cover a colonoscopy until you already have symptoms.

In Episode 88 of the Functional Medicine Foundations Podcast, Amber Warren, PA-C sits down with Michael Orloff, PA-C to discuss early cancer detection and the limits of relying on insurance-driven screening guidelines.

But the guidelines keep moving younger. Screening age dropped from 50 to 45. Colon cancer is showing up earlier and earlier, and if you wait for insurance to catch up, you're waiting for a system built around the average person, not you.

Know your family history. Know your risk factors. Don't wait for a scope to tell you what your gut has been trying to tell you for years.

Your LDL cholesterol is just a proxy. It's not the full story.

In Episode 88 of the Functional Medicine Foundations Podcast, Amber Warren, PA-C sits down with Michael Orloff, PA-C to talk through cardiovascular disease prevention and why standard cholesterol panels often miss the mark.

ASCVD is the number one cause of death worldwide, so we treat it like the priority it is. That means looking past the standard cholesterol panel and trending your ApoB, since it captures all the atherogenic lipids actually causing plaque buildup, and it's less affected by other variables than LDL.

We also check lipoprotein(a), a genetic risk factor most people have never heard of. There's no medication that treats it directly. If it's elevated, we get more aggressive everywhere else we can control: cholesterol, insulin sensitivity, blood pressure, lifestyle.

This is what it means to look at the whole patient instead of one number on a page.

Progesterone is one of the most protective hormones in the female body.

When it is supported, things tend to feel steadier
More calm
More stable cycles
Less inflammation
Better metabolic support

It also plays a role in protecting your brain, heart, fertility, skin, and bones over time.

But progesterone does not just decline for no reason.

Chronic stress, not eating enough, over exercising, poor sleep, constant screen exposure, thyroid dysfunction, and environmental toxins can all quietly lower it.

Your symptoms are not random. They are signals.

Hormone balance is foundational. If this is something you are navigating, schedule a consultation through the link in bio.
