It is with great sadness that we share the passing of McKenzie Cortez, Regional Director for The Cottages, who died unexpectedly last week.
Kenzie led our Payette and Weiser communities with dedication, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. She was funny, hardworking, and kind, with a genuine passion for serving seniors. Her humility, strong work ethic, and constant pursuit of excellence made her an exceptional leader and a valued member of our team.
Kenzie joined The Cottages in 2023, beginning as an Assistant at our Boise location. Her talent and determination quickly became evident as she advanced to Executive Director and later Regional Director. Throughout her career with The Cottages, Kenzie consistently set high standards for herself and those around her. In 2025, she achieved one of her professional milestones by leading the Weiser Memory Care community to 100% occupancy and the Assisted Living community to 90% occupancy. That same year, she was honored with the prestigious Cottages Success Award.
Kenzie cared deeply for both her residents and her team. She held her caregivers to the highest standards while leading with compassion and example. Her team often spoke of her willingness to step in and help with resident care, regardless of what else demanded her attention. She treated residents like family and inspired those around her through her servant leadership.
As members of the leadership team, we will remember Kenzie's quick wit, determination, competitive spirit, and the genuine care she showed for her team. She had a remarkable ability to encourage others, celebrate their successes, and help them grow.
Kenzie leaves behind a lasting legacy of service, leadership, and kindness. She will be deeply missed by her residents, her team, and all of us at The Cottages.
At the request of Kenzie’s family, anyone who wishes to help with expenses related to her passing can donate directly to Flahiff Funeral Chapel in Homedale, ID. Graveside services will be June 26th at 10am at the Marsing Homedale cemetery in Marsing. All are welcome.
