Taking antibiotics for your cold? Your gut is paying the price.

1 in 3 people on antibiotics get diarrhea. That's not a bug—it's what happens when antibiotics kill the good bacteria keeping your gut healthy.

But diarrhea isn't even the worst part.

Kill off your good bacteria long enough and you invite *Clostridioides difficile* (C. difficile). It's a bacteria that causes severe, sometimes life-threatening colitis. People prescribed unnecessary antibiotics for viral infections have nearly *triple* the risk of developing a C. difficile infection.

Then there's the yeast infection. Antibiotics wipe out bacteria everywhere—including the ones protecting you from fungal overgrowth.

And here's the kicker: every unnecessary antibiotic you take contributes to antibiotic resistance. When bacteria evolve to resist these drugs, they spread. Over 35,000 Americans die every year from resistant infections.

The truth? Antibiotics only work on *bacterial* infections, not viral ones.

Your cold is viral.

Taking an antibiotic for it doesn't help you. It just harms you and everyone around you.
