How do you know the difference between being tired and being burnt out?

Tired is putting in a good day's work, you gave your energy, you got things done, and now your body wants rest. That's normal, and a good night's sleep usually fixes it.

Burnout is different. It sits deeper. It can show up as resentment, irritability, or just not enjoying things the way you used to. And the frustrating part, no amount of sleep seems to touch it. Burnout isn't just physical exhaustion; it can start to shift how you see your work, your day, even yourself.

Which one are you dealing with more lately — tired, or burnt out?

Myth: Reiki is a religion or spiritual belief system.

Not with Usui Reiki Ryoho, the traditional Japanese form I practice. It's a simple, structured way of working with the hands to support relaxation and reduce stress. You don't need to believe in energy, spirits, or anything else for a session to be calming.

Myth: Reiki cures illness.

It doesn't. Reiki isn't medical treatment, and I won't tell you otherwise. What it offers is a quiet space for your body to relax and your nervous system to settle, nothing more, nothing less.

Myth: You have to feel heat, tingling, or something "happening" for it to be working.

Some people feel warmth or a tingling sensation. Many feel nothing but deep relaxation. Some just feel like they took a really good nap. There's no required experience, and not feeling something dramatic doesn't mean nothing happened.

If you've held back because Reiki sounded too spiritual, too woo, or too hard to explain, hopefully this clears a bit of that up.

Questions are always welcome, no pressure to book.

What if you didn't have to do anything?

We spend so much of our time thinking, solving, planning, responding, and trying to keep up.

A Reiki session at Out East Wellness is intentionally different.

You don't have to talk about everything going on in your life.
You don't have to know anything about Reiki.
You don't have to believe in anything.
And you don't have to do anything.

You simply have an opportunity to be quiet, settle in, and allow yourself some uninterrupted time to rest.

My approach to Reiki is simple, quiet, and grounded. For some people, a session feels deeply relaxing. For others, the experience is much more subtle. There is no particular experience you're supposed to have.

If you've been curious about Reiki but have been hesitant because you're not sure what to expect, you're welcome to reach out and ask questions.

Questions or interested in learning more?
I'm happy to answer questions or provide more information. There’s no pressure to book.

When did rest become something we had to earn?

Many of us move through life thinking, "I'll slow down when I finish this project," or "I'll take care of myself when things settle down."

But sometimes things don't settle down. There is always another responsibility, another person who needs us, another task waiting.

Over time, we may not even notice how much tension we are carrying because being busy has become our normal.

A Reiki session offers a quiet space to pause — not to ignore the challenges in our lives or pretend everything is okay, but to give the mind and body an opportunity to rest.

When we allow ourselves a moment of stillness, we may begin to notice what we are carrying, what we can release, and what truly needs our attention.

Nothing to force.
Nothing to prove.
Just a moment to pause, breathe, and care for yourself.

If you’re curious about what a Reiki session is like, I’m always happy to answer questions.

For phone inquiries - texting first is appreciated. This helps me reduce unwanted calls and respond to your message as soon as I’m available.

A Reiki session provides a quiet space to step away from the noise and constant mental activity of daily life, not to forget our problems or pretend they don't exist, but to give the mind and body an opportunity to rest.

I've noticed that some of the greatest stress in my life came from trying to force things to happen a certain way or wishing things were different than they were.

Unwanted events happen in all of our lives.

Disappointments.
Unexpected changes.
Health challenges.
Relationship difficulties.

Our natural tendency is often to replay them in our minds or try to control an outcome that may be beyond our control.

Over time, that effort can create stress and tension within us.

When we stop fighting what we can't control, the mind often becomes quieter.

Sometimes when the mind becomes quieter, we begin to see more clearly what we can change, what we cannot, and what we may be ready to release.

Nothing to force.

Just space to pause, breathe, and be present.

For scheduling and initial inquiries, I ask clients to please text. This helps me manage messages between sessions and reduce spam calls. Once we confirm an appointment or if you have questions, I’m happy to speak directly as well.

When did rest become something we have to earn?

Somewhere along the way, many of us began treating rest as a reward for getting everything done.

After the work is finished.
After the house is clean.
After the responsibilities are taken care of.
After everyone else's needs have been met.

We tell ourselves we'll slow down once we get through this project, this challenge, this busy season, or this difficult period in life.

But what if caring for ourselves didn't have to wait until the finish line?

What if taking time to rest and recharge along the way actually helped us move through life's demands with a little more ease?

The truth is that we often care for others more effectively when we are caring for ourselves, too.

Sometimes rest isn't something we earn.

Sometimes it's something we need.

Reiki sessions provide a quiet opportunity to step away from the demands of daily life and allow the body and nervous system a chance to slow down, relax, and rebalance.

If you've been carrying a lot lately, perhaps it's time to give yourself permission to rest.

For scheduling and initial inquiries, I ask clients to please text. This helps me manage messages between sessions and reduce spam calls. Once we confirm an appointment or if you have questions, I’m happy to speak directly as well.

Reiki is not something you need to believe in, and it doesn’t require a spiritual belief system.

At its core, Reiki is simply a quiet, supportive space where the mind and body can begin to slow down. When the mind is quiet, the body naturally follows.

Many of us spend so much time in a constant state of stress that we forget what it feels like to truly relax.

Sometimes being kind to ourselves simply means allowing the nervous system a chance to settle.

Nothing to force. Nothing to perform. Only the desire to make time to care of yourself.

Just space to rest.

Sometimes Stress Builds Quietly

Stress doesn’t always arrive all at once.

Sometimes it builds slowly through everyday pressures responsibilities, uncertainty, rising costs, constant mental load, and trying to keep up with everything life asks of us.

We think we're holding it together, sometimes not realizing until later how much we needed to care for ourselves.

Over time, the body begins to hold that tension without us even realizing it.

Many people notice they have trouble fully relaxing, sleeping deeply, or feeling mentally settled, even during quiet moments.

The nervous system was never meant to stay in a constant state of stress.

Reiki sessions offer a calm, quiet space where the body can slow down and begin shifting out of that tension, even briefly.

Often the changes are subtle, but meaningful.

Sometimes the body simply needs a chance to exhale.

What I Notice During a Reiki Session

People sometimes ask what I notice during a session.

Most often, what stands out is how the body begins to slow down.

Breathing tends to deepen. Muscles soften. The overall pace of the body shifts into a more relaxed state.

Sometimes people are very aware of this happening. Other times, it’s much quieter and they simply rest.

There’s no expectation for anything specific to occur.

Each session is different, and the changes are often subtle.

My role is simply to provide a calm, steady space where the nervous system can settle.

From there, the body often begins to regulate itself naturally.

Why It Can Be Hard to Relax

We can all have trouble relaxing, even when we have the time.

We sit down to rest, but our mind keeps going, but our body still feels tense, even when nothing is actively wrong.

This isn’t a personal failing.

Over time, the nervous system can become used to being in a constant state of alert caused by work, responsibilities, and ongoing stress. When that state becomes familiar, it can feel difficult to fully shift out of it.

Relaxation isn’t always something we can force.

Sometimes our body's needs the right environment to begin settling on its own.

Reiki sessions are simply a quiet, steady space where the nervous system can start to slow down naturally, without effort.
