There are parts of this work that we carry quietly.

Being a doula means being invited into some of the most beautiful, vulnerable moments of a family’s life. Sometimes, we get to celebrate new beginnings. Sometimes, we sit beside families in moments for which there simply are no words.

This week, our hearts are a little heavier.

Out of love and respect for the family, their story is not ours to share. But their little one mattered. Their life mattered. And the love surrounding them matters.

Today, we’re simply holding space, for grief, for love, for the families carrying both, and for the little lives that leave footprints far bigger than their time here. 🤍

✨ MEET DOULA LANAE! ✨

We are so excited to officially welcome Lanae to the Delicate Doula Services team! 🤍

Lanae brings a beautiful combination of lived experience, specialized training, compassion, and a genuine desire to meet families exactly where they are—with kindness, dignity, and without judgment.

Along with her passion for supporting **all births—whether at home or in the hospital—**Lanae has a special heart for families navigating substance use disorder, recovery, and past or present mental health challenges. She is also a Certified Recovery Peer Coach, giving her a unique perspective and skill set for walking alongside families whose journeys may feel a little more complex.

For Lanae, this work is personal.

During her own pregnancy, she remembers what it felt like to feel unseen and to believe that hiring a doula was financially out of reach. After watching so many other families experience similar challenges—and learning how profoundly continuous support can impact the birth experience—she knew this was where she was called to be.

In Lanae’s words:

“I am here to hold space for life’s most profound thresholds. As a doula, I provide continuous, compassionate care for families navigating the beautiful, complex, and sacred moments of transition. My goal is to ensure families from all walks of life feel informed, supported, and deeply seen every step of the way.”

That philosophy fits beautifully with what we believe at Delicate Doula Services: every family deserves to feel heard, respected, informed, supported, and cared for throughout their journey.

Lanae is kind, gentle, compassionate, and deeply passionate about meeting people where they are. We truly believe she is going to be an incredible addition to our team and an amazing support to the families she serves.

🌿 Lanae is currently accepting birth clients with due dates beginning October 2026 and beyond.

She is currently able to accept some Michigan Medicaid plans, as well as private-pay clients.

Please help us give Lanae a BIG Delicate Doula Services welcome! 🤍

We cannot wait for our community to get to know her and for Lanae to begin walking alongside families during some of life’s most powerful moments.

Some discomfort during the first few days can be normal as your body adjusts.

But ongoing pain, cracked ni***es, poor weight gain, low diaper output, or concerns about milk transfer deserve attention, not something you should just "push through."

Getting help early can often prevent small challenges from becoming overwhelming.

Remember:
💛 Asking for help isn't giving up.
💛 It doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong.
💛 It means you're taking care of both yourself and your baby.

If you're struggling, reach out.
Support can make all the difference.

Many people are surprised to learn how much postpartum doulas can help with breastfeeding.

We can:
🤱 Help you find comfortable feeding positions.
🤱 Encourage skin-to-skin after birth.
🤱 Help recognize when something doesn't seem right.
🤱 Offer evidence-based education.
🤱 Support your goals without judgment.
🤱 Refer to trusted IBCLCs and healthcare providers when specialized care is needed.

You don't have to figure it all out alone.

Sometimes the biggest difference is simply having someone beside you saying, "You're doing a great job." 💛

One of the biggest misconceptions is that breastfeeding is only "successful" if it's exclusive.

The truth is:
✨ Every drop of breast milk has value.
✨ Combination feeding is a valid choice.
✨ Pumping is breastfeeding.
✨ Needing supplementation doesn't mean you've failed.

Feeding your baby isn't a competition, it's about finding what works for your family.

Your worth as a parent is never measured in ounces.

🤍 Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

Breastfeeding can be beautiful, challenging, emotional, exhausting, empowering, or all of those things in the same day.

Whether you're exclusively breastfeeding, pumping, combo feeding, using donor milk, working through latch challenges, or making the decision that's best for your family, you deserve support.

Our goal isn't perfection. It's helping families feel informed, confident, and cared for.

Breastfeeding is learned by both parent and baby, and it's okay if it doesn't come naturally right away.
We're here to support you through the highs, the lows, and everything in between. 💛

Did you know something as simple as a birth comb may help you cope with contractions?

🪮 A birth comb works by using the Gate Control Theory of Pain. This theory suggests that your brain can only process a limited number of sensory signals at one time.

When you firmly squeeze a birth comb (or another textured object like a spiky fidget) during a contraction, the pressure and discomfort in your hand compete with the pain signals coming from your uterus. This doesn't stop contractions or eliminate pain, but it may reduce how intensely your brain perceives them.

Many birthing people find that using a birth comb:
🤍 Provides a point of focus during contractions
🤍 Encourages active coping
🤍 Gives them something to physically "work with" as each wave builds and fades
🤍 Is small, inexpensive, and easy to pack in a birth bag

Like every comfort measure in labor, a birth comb isn't magic—and it won't work the same for everyone. But when combined with breathing, movement, position changes, hydrotherapy, massage, or other coping techniques, it can be another valuable tool in your labor toolbox.

Knowledge is power, and having multiple coping options can help you feel more confident and prepared for birth. 💛

Birth doesn't always unfold the way we hope or plan. Sometimes unexpected interventions, changes, or complications become part of the story. While a doula can't promise a perfect birth or prevent every difficult outcome, we can help you feel informed, supported, and empowered every step of the way.

When you understand your options, have someone helping you ask questions, and feel heard in your decisions, you're more likely to look back knowing you were an active participant in your birth, not just someone things happened to.

Knowledge doesn't erase every challenge, but it can reduce fear, build confidence, and help you process unexpected moments with greater clarity. Feeling respected, informed, and supported can make a profound difference in how your birth is experienced and remembered.

This Birth Trauma Awareness Week, we want you to know that your story matters. Every family deserves compassionate support, informed choices, and someone in their corner, regardless of how their birth unfolds. 💜
