Jan Bidwell LMSW Thriving during instability is challenging. We need to keep ourselves calm. Learning to fold mindfulness practices into our daily routines helps us stay steady.

We can Let me show you how simple it can be. We are in a time of great change and more than a small amount of uncertainty. This instability and stress just isn’t good for any part of our body or our state of mind. We do have the ability to slow down our inner response by doing “brain work”, most often called mindfulnesses. References to mindfulness have begun to be seen as mainstream, but it can require instruction and guidance. Tactical Mindfulness Training offers very simple ways to intentionally structure thought during the day as we go through our daily routines. I am a licensed clinical social worker (LMSW) in the State of Michigan and currently am accepting new clients. I specialize in trauma, depression, anxiety, PTSD, veterans, and law enforcement officers, as I served in the Lansing Police Department as the first embedded social worker. Whether you are interested in having your staff trained in Tactical Mindfulness, want to learn meditation and mindfulness yourself, or you are interested in coming into therapy, I’d be happy to see how we could work together. There are no shortcuts. The changes we want to effect require we be at our best. Our minds and our hearts need to be settled. We are the ones who need to make that. Check out janbidwell.com. Let me know if I can help.

Here are 3 simple mindfulness practices you can do today!

None of what I offer is something I just read about or saw in a video. I teach what I know personally.

I practice in a certain way and I see the palpable changes. I then fully understand what I have learned. Only then do I allow myself to teach those practices.

The healing power of laughter

As we celebrate Positive Attitude Month, let's talk about laughter! 😂 It’s not just fun; it’s a fantastic antidote to stress and negativity. Studies show that humor can lighten anxiety and even help with depression.

When I need a good chuckle, I dive into funny animal videos on social media—what I like to call 'giggle scrolling.' Give it a try! You might be surprised how much better you feel!

30 YEARS.

This week marks three decades since I fell ill with a virus and never fully recovered.

I was eventually diagnosed with MECFS. It is extraordinarily debilitating. Generally, people are often bedbound or housebound for some years. They gradually improve, but the symptoms rarely go away. Some people remain bedbound or housebound for the rest of their lives and only about 7% recover.

Do you know what has helped me?
Mindfulness and meditation.

I remember understanding that I could be sick and miserable, or sick and happy. I directed my mind to drop depressing thoughts.

The practices I offer in my book, Tactical Mindfulness, are out of my absolute conviction, born of my own journey through an extreme stressor.

These practices help you to be strong and steady to travel whatever road is in front of you.
