One of our favorite features at Discovery Woods: hand-operated water pumps, built by my dad. 🛠️
Water play is such a powerful learning tool in early childhood. These pumps support fine and gross motor development, problem solving, cause and effect, key learning schemas (transporting, trajectory, transforming), language and social skills through collaboration, and regulation — which is exactly why we added them.
A hand pump has weight, resistance, and a real job to do. Providing opportunities for children to use real tools allows them to build skills and a real sense of capability.
I’m so grateful to my parents, who are always ready to help with my next idea. I share my vision and before I know it, my dad is building it. “Thank you” doesn’t feel like enough.💛

Today in the woods, these kids became engineers and problem-solvers — all through play. They moved crates, connected PVC pipes and -with a little support- they figured out how to get water flowing from one spot to another.
No instructions. Just curiosity, trial and error, and a whole lot of “what if...?”
That’s real learning. ✨

🌿 Discovery Woods is Open!

On June 25th, Discovery Woods at Muddy Buddies welcomed its first group of explorers, and it was everything I had hoped it would be.

Muddy Buddies has always been my dream. Discovery Woods was the next chapter of that dream—the vision I carried from the very beginning. I always imagined creating a space where children could truly connect with nature through meaningful outdoor play. It took 2 years of planning, clearing the woods, making the space safe, and bringing so many ideas to life, but this week that vision finally became a reality.

Watching the children explore was pure magic. They built, created, climbed, discovered, got muddy, worked together and solved problems with curiosity and excitement. They reminded me exactly why this space was worth waiting for.

Discovery Woods is a place where children can connect with nature, build confidence, spark their imagination, and simply be. A whole-child approach rooted in curiosity, wonder, and real outdoor play.

A heartfelt thank you to Squire Farm for believing in this vision and sharing this beautiful space with our community. Discovery Woods would not have been possible without your support.

And to my family, friends, and everyone who gave their time, talents, encouragement, and hard work to help bring this space to life—thank you. I will always be grateful.

This is only the beginning, and I can’t wait to watch this special place grow alongside the children who explore it. 🌲💚

🐐☀️ Goat snuggles, sunshine, and so many smiles!

Friday was such a special morning as we welcomed Cloverbrook Farm and their adorable goats to Muddy Buddies! The day was filled with farm-inspired play, hands-on exploration, face painting, and plenty of joyful, messy fun.

Huge thank you to Dave’s Wood Carvings for building this beautiful table for Discovery Woods! We’re so grateful for Dave’s time and skill. It’ll be our go-to spot for art, science experiments, and hands-on learning — a place to gather, create, and wonder. Exactly what our program needed!

Smashing chalk is more than just fun at Muddy Buddies! 🌈✨

This simple play invitation helps kids strengthen fine motor skills, build hand-eye coordination, explore textures and colors, and learn through hands-on play. Most importantly — they were creating, experimenting and enjoying the process together, in their own way.💛

🌎Earth Day at Muddy Buddies!💚

Wednesday was chilly and breezy, but that didn’t stop our amazing community from coming together to celebrate our Earth. Seeing so many smiling faces, bundled up and ready to explore, made the day feel incredibly special. 💫

The morning was filled with hands-on, open-ended play and meaningful nature connections. Ranger Jim joined us with a beautiful collection of nature treasures and even shared the sounds of frogs singing—such a memorable experience for the children. 🌿

One of the sweetest moments was my nephew sharing his northern water snake. Even though the cold limited the visit, it was still such a special experience. 🐍

The joy of the day was in all the little moments—digging for worms, creating pinecone birdfeeders, painting and planting, mud play, building habitats, exploring a cozy “bird nest” with singing stuffed birds, and discovering life cycles of frogs, butterflies, and more. And of course, our mud kitchen was a favorite!

I’m so grateful to everyone who came out, all the helping hands who made this possible, and to Squire Farm for sharing their beautiful space with us. 💚

Events like this take a lot of work, but the joy, connection, and love for nature make it more than worth it. So thankful for this community. 🌎✨
