Boston this weekend for Chris Stapleton. ❤️ My schedule has been completely off. Later nights, different food, not my normal workouts and definitely not my normal routine.

This morning I found myself sitting outside with my coffee, enjoying the sun and watching this busy city move around me…and thinking about Monday. 😂 What I need to get back to, what I need to do, what I should be doing.

Those damn shoulds.

And I caught myself because I’m away. I had a great weekend. I’m sitting outside with a coffee and nowhere I need to be right now, yet part of my brain is already home.

Maybe you do this too. You finally get the weekend away, the quiet morning, dinner with someone you love, or even ten minutes where nobody needs anything from you, and somehow your mind has already moved on to what’s next. The laundry, the emails, Monday, the workout you missed, all the things you need to “get back on track” with.

Sometimes I wonder how many perfectly good moments we rush right through because we’re already thinking about the next one.

So yes, my schedule has been off. But maybe not everything that takes us out of our routine needs to be something we immediately fix. Maybe sometimes we’re just living our lives.

Monday will still be there tomorrow. Right now, I have coffee to drink and sunshine to enjoy. ❤️

I wonder how much noise we get used to carrying around without even realizing it.

That’s what I was thinking about when I sat here.

It had been a full week and I just wanted to get away for a little while. Not take a trip or make some big plan. I just wanted quiet.

You know how sometimes you finally get somewhere quiet, but your brain takes a while to catch up? 😂

You’re still thinking about work, something you need to remember, a conversation you had three days ago, what you need to do when you get home. All those little things that seem to take up space in your head.

And I wonder how many of us have gotten so used to that feeling that we don’t even notice it anymore.

Until things get quiet.

Then you realize how much you needed it.

That was me this week. Feet in the water, sitting on a rock, and very happy nobody needed anything from me for a little while. 😂

I went to see Callie at work and of course I had to get a picture of the two of us.

There’s something a little surreal about seeing your daughter in scrubs, at her job, doing what she worked so hard to do.

I remember when she needed me for everything and now I’m standing in her world.

It got me thinking about how easy it is to see the changes in our kids and not really see them in ourselves.

Think about who you were when your kids were little, or even who you were ten years ago.

Would that woman recognize you now?

You’ve probably changed your mind about things you once thought you never would. You care less about some things and a whole lot more about others. Maybe you’ve gotten better at speaking up, or you’re still figuring that one out.

We spend a lot of time thinking about the things we still want to work on.

Maybe once in a while it’s worth looking back and realizing…

I’ve changed a lot too.

Do you ever look at what you’re about to eat and immediately start judging it?

That’s good.

That’s bad.

I shouldn’t eat that.

I was good all week, so I can have it.

Or my personal favorite…I’ll be better tomorrow. 😂

It’s funny how much thinking can go into something we’re going to eat in 20 minutes.

And I wonder how many of us have been doing it for so long that we don’t even notice anymore.

A meal isn’t just a meal. There’s this whole conversation going on in our heads at the same time.

Maybe instead of always asking whether what we’re eating is “good” or “bad,” we could start noticing that conversation a little more.

Where did those rules even come from?

Do they still make sense for us?

I don’t think we ask ourselves that enough.

Anyway…these dumplings were really good. 😂

My dad is usually the one we’re sneaking pictures of. My kids and I are always trying to catch him when he’s not paying attention.

Well…I guess he decided it was time to get even. 😂

I had just taken my hat off, sat down to answer a few emails, and before I knew it…he snapped this picture. When I looked at it later, I laughed.

But then I noticed something.

Do you ever sit down for a minute, but your brain never really sits down You’re answering an email, but you’re already thinking about what you need to make for dinner.

You finish one thing, and before you even feel good about getting it done, you’re already thinking about the next thing.I don’t know when we started living like that.

Maybe it’s just part of juggling work, family, appointments, errands…life.
I just wonder how many little moments we miss because our mind is always somewhere else.

I’m not talking about taking a week off or going on a retreat. I’m talking about five minutes.Five minutes where you’re actually where you are.

I have a feeling a lot of us could use a little more of that.

Have you ever made a decision you felt pretty good about and then started asking everyone else what they thought?

Maybe you tell a friend. Then another friend. Maybe you Google it.

And before you know it, the decision you felt pretty sure about suddenly doesn’t feel so clear anymore. It’s funny how quickly that can happen.

Sometimes I wonder if we actually don’t know what we want or if we’ve just gotten so used to looking outside ourselves for reassurance that we’ve stopped noticing when we already know.

And maybe self-trust isn’t about never asking anyone else’s opinion.

Maybe it’s learning that someone else’s opinion doesn’t automatically have to become yours.

Just something to think about the next time you catch yourself asking, “What do you think I should do?”

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to convince yourself you’ll start again when life settles down?

After vacation. When the kids go back to school. When work isn’t so crazy.

On Monday. Next month.

I’ve done this too, and the funny thing is…when does life actually settle down? There always seems to be something.

I think sometimes we make taking care of ourselves much bigger than it needs to be. If we can’t do the workout, eat the way we planned, get enough sleep, drink enough water and somehow keep up with everything else, we think we’ll just get back to it later.

But lately I’ve been thinking about how different it feels when I stop looking for the perfect time and just ask myself, what would taking care of myself look like today?

Some days that’s a workout. Some days it’s a walk.

Some days it’s sitting outside with a cold drink and enjoying where I am.

And maybe that’s part of understanding yourself too. Learning what you need in the life you’re actually living, instead of waiting for the perfect version of it to begin.

Do you ever catch yourself waiting for life to settle down before you get back to you?

Can I ask you something?

Have you ever noticed how hard it is to do something just because you want to?

The other day I sat down for a few minutes, and almost immediately I started thinking about everything else I should be doing.

I laughed because I know I’m not the only one.

Somewhere along the way, so many of us learned that if we’re not being productive, we should probably feel a little guilty.

We keep moving because there’s always one more thing on the list.

One more load of laundry. One more email. One more thing to take care of.

And somehow, taking care of ourselves ends up at the bottom.

I’m trying to get better at catching myself when that happens.

Not because I’ve figured it all out, but because I don’t want to spend my life believing my worth depends on how much I get done.

I’m curious… Do you ever have a hard time slowing down without feeling guilty? I’d love to know I’m not the only one.

What if we’ve been asking ourselves the wrong questions?

For years, whenever I felt like my health wasn’t where I wanted it to be, I immediately asked…

“What’s the best diet?”

“What’s the best workout?”

“What supplement should I be taking?”

“What should I cut out?”

I thought the answer was always out there somewhere.

Another expert.

Another plan.

Another piece of information.

But one day I realized something…

None of those questions were helping me understand myself.

So I started asking different questions.

Why do I keep starting over?

What makes it so hard to stay consistent?

What am I really searching for when I think I need another plan?

Those questions changed everything.

Because lasting health isn’t built by collecting more information.

It’s built by understanding the person trying to create the change.

Today, when I feel stuck, I don’t ask…

“What’s the next thing I should try?”

I ask…

“What is this moment trying to teach me about myself?”

That one question has changed the way I think about health.

💛 If you stopped searching for the next answer this week… what question might you ask yourself instead?

This morning’s walk reminded me of the woman I used to be.

I honestly believed that if I wasn’t pushing myself, I wasn’t taking care of my health.

So I ran.

I ate as little as I thought I could get away with.

I believed that being healthy meant doing more…and eating less.

What I didn’t realize was that I was treating my body like something that always needed to be fixed.

Today, my walks look different.

I don’t walk because I have to.

I walk because I enjoy how I feel afterward.

I don’t move my body to punish it.

I move it because I want to take care of it.

That shift changed more than my workouts.

It changed my relationship with myself.

And it made me wonder…

How many women are still measuring their health by how hard they push instead of how well they’re caring for themselves?

I don’t believe health has to be earned anymore.

I believe health grows when we stop fighting our bodies and start understanding them.

💛 I’d love to know…

Has your relationship with your body changed over the years?
