Did you know developmental hip dysplasia is one of the most common orthopedic conditions seen in newborns?

According to Dr. Jonathan Schiller, an orthopedic pediatric surgeon with University Orthopedics, Inc., risk factors can include family history, being a firstborn female, and breech presentation.

"A lot of the time now, these babies are picked up almost on day one or day two, when the pediatrician comes in and examines them."

Early detection is key. Routine newborn screenings help identify hip dysplasia early, when treatment is often most effective.

Watch Dr. Schiller explain the signs, risk factors, and importance of early diagnosis.
