Today I had the privilege of traveling to the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta alongside fellow Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) to advocate for our profession, our practices, our staff, and most importantly, our patients.
Eastman, McRae, and Dublin were well represented today, and I want to personally thank our patients for their patience and understanding while we took time away from the office to advocate on your behalf. We do this because we care deeply about protecting access to healthcare in our communities and ensuring that we can continue providing the care you deserve.
It is truly an honor to be a Nurse Practitioner, a business owner, and a healthcare provider serving the community where I live and work every day. This profession is not something we achieved overnight. For most of us, it represents decades of education, training, sacrifice, experience, and dedication. Those years of learning and serving patients have shaped us into the providers we are today, and for that I am incredibly grateful.
While at the Capitol, we participated in a press conference, which I have uploaded for you to watch. I may have gotten a little fired up during my remarks, but when it comes to protecting patient access to care and advocating for our profession, I believe it’s time to get down to business. We must continue pushing for the ability to practice to the full extent of our education, training, and experience.
Across Georgia, APRNs are facing challenges due to the recent interpretation by the Georgia Composite Medical Board regarding collaborative agreements. Many of us have serious concerns about how this interpretation could impact healthcare access, particularly in rural communities where providers are already in short supply.
I encourage you to watch the videos from today’s meeting and press conference. If you share our concerns, please consider reaching out to your legislators, the Georgia Composite Medical Board, the Secretary of State’s Office, the Governor, and the Lieutenant Governor. Attend local events, ask questions, and make your voice heard. Over the past week alone, I have spoken with numerous legislators from Middle and South Georgia and have received thoughtful responses and heard genuine concerns.
This issue is about preserving access to quality healthcare for the people of Georgia. Rural communities deserve the ability to keep their healthcare providers and maintain access to the care they need close to home.
Thank you for your continued support of Nurse Practitioners and the healthcare professionals who serve your communities every day. Together, we can help ensure that patients throughout rural Georgia continue to have access to the providers they know, trust, and choose.
