Client win 🏆
This is why we train. ❤️

One of my younger clients sent me this after karate tonight. With her and her Mom's permission I am sharing it with you. Her instructor complimented her balance in her guard stance — and she told me she can feel herself getting stronger.

I love this so much.

Because this is what I want strength and fitness to be about.

Not becoming the smallest version of ourselves.

Becoming stronger, more capable versions of ourselves so we can do more of the things we love.

The work we do in the gym should show up outside of the gym — in karate, on the golf course, playing with your kids or grandkids, traveling, gardening, getting up off the floor, or whatever matters to you.

Move better. Feel stronger. Build confidence in what your body can do.

Train for that. ❤️

Then we took it outside

The gym was where we got strong.
But it didn't stay there

We took our workouts to the beach

To the track.

Even when the guys were away they found ways to keep moving.

The goal was never to be good at working out inside four walls. It was to build habits that came with us wherever life took us.

We aren't just logging workouts, we are building a lifestyle!

And every gym we have called home- BuckBuilt, FreeWill Fitness have shaped that journey.

A new home. A new chapter.

BuckBuilt was moving so we needed to find a new home.

That's when we moved to FreeWill Fitness in Colts Neck.

The new space gave us more equipment, more room to train, and more opportunities to keep learning. Barbells, kettlebells, ropes, carries, jump ropes, conditioning... little by little, we expanded what we were capable of.

By then, working out wasn't something they squeezed in when life allowed.

It had become part of who they were.

Three evenings and a Sunday morning each week, they kept the appointment they'd made with themselves.

They encouraged eachother.

They trained hard.

Fitness was no longer a temporary goal.

It had become part of their lifestyle.

We didn't just find a new gym.

We found a place where our little community could keep growing.

What started with three guys turned into something much bigger.

Every milestone was celebrated. Every new person was welcomed. Every workout made us a little stronger.

The plates next to Drew, Jimmy, Tommy, and Loren represented the weight they had lost together, but they also represented months of hard work, consistency, and believing in each other.

Looking back, Buck Built was more than the place where we trained.

It was where Chubby Hubby found its identity.

And we were just getting started...

The guys kept showing up... and they got strong.

It didn't happen overnight.

It took months of showing up three days a week, putting in the work, and sticking to the simple nutrition habits we practiced together.

Slowly, everything started to change.

The days of struggling to get off a bench...
The days of barely hanging from a pull-up bar...
The days of wondering if they were "too old" to get stronger...

Those days were over.

Progress became the motivation.

And people started noticing...

These were our first workouts.

I don't just see barbells, resistance bands, and whiteboards.

I see three men with careers, families, and responsibilities. They easily could have used any of these to tell themselves they were "too busy" to make themselves a priority.

But they made a different decision.

They decided their health mattered too.

I kept everything simple. We followed a beginner strength program built around the basic movement patterns: squat, hinge, push, pull, carry, and core. We finished with short conditioning workouts, paired it with a simple nutrition plan, and held each other accountable.

Everything was hard in the beginning.
✅️Two evenings a week after work and an early Sunday morning.
✅️Push-ups started on the wall.
✅️Squats were done to a box.
✅️Hanging from the pull-up bar for 20 seconds felt impossible.

Even getting on and off a bench was a workout. They used to joke that they felt like turtles stuck on their backs. So we practiced that too!

We celebrated every victory.
➡️ One more rep.
➡️ One more second hanging from the bar.
➡️ One more 2.5-pound plate on the barbell.

Some days, simply showing up after work was the win.

Little by little, something started to change. The guys started encouraging each other instead of looking at me for every answer.
✅️ They laughed.
✅️ They teased each other.
✅️ They celebrated one another

When you surround yourself with people who are on the same path, it makes it easier to keep going.

They kept showing up. One workout at a time, they were taking back their health.
❤️

Tomorrow I will tell you what happened when people started to notice.

People ask me all the time where the name Chubby Hubby came from.

It wasn't a marketing strategy, and I wasn't making fun of anyone.

It came from my heart.

One day Loren told me he was getting winded walking up the stairs and couldn't tie his shoes anymore. As he said it, he patted his stomach.

I looked at him lovingly and said,

"Aww... my chubby hubby needs me."

We both laughed.

Let me be clear... I loved Loren completely then, and I love him completely now. This was never about how he looked.

It was about something much more important.

He recognized that his health was starting to affect his life, and he trusted me enough to help him change it. As a personal trainer and health coach, I felt honored that he told me.

Neither of us had any idea that "Chubby Hubby" would become the name of a program that would help so many men and eventually wives, sisters, daughters, grandmothers, and entire families change their lives.

But that was the moment the seed was planted.

Today, Chubby Hubby isn't about being chubby.
It's about deciding your health matters too.

Tomorrow I'll show you what those first workouts at BuckBuilt looked like. ❤️

Almost 4 years ago, this is where it all started. After my call for help, 3 guys showed up.

Three guys.

My husband Loren.
My brother Chris. (My Sister-in-law voluntold him 🤣)
Our friend Drew.

No fancy launch.
No business plan.
No logo.

Just three men who decided it was time to do something about their health.

Loren had reached a point where he was getting winded walking up the stairs and tying his shoes had become difficult.

He wasn't lazy.
He was working hard, taking care of our family, and somewhere along the way he stopped taking care of himself.

Sound familiar?

So we started meeting three days a week at Buck Built.

The goal wasn't to turn them into athletes or to get a six-pack.

The goal was simple...

Help good men become healthier.

Tomorrow I'll tell you how "Chubby Hubby" got its name.

❤️

I have a program called Chubby Hubby. We are moving into our 4th year and we are in a new gym, so I thought I would explain how we came to be and what we do so you can see if this might be a good fit for you!

This was the very first post I ever made about Chubby Hubby. ❤️

Looking back, it makes me smile.

The tagline was "Get your Dad Bod Back!" and I was inviting a handful of guys to get fit for spring.

I had one goal.

Help my husband.

That's it.

I just wanted to help my guy who was working hard, putting everyone else first, and feeling like he had lost himself a little.

I knew he would need support so I took a chance with this post and asked if a few people wanted to join him.

Back then, I thought I was creating a short-term fitness program.

I wasn't.

Over the years, Chubby Hubby has evolved into something much bigger.

Today, it's not about getting ready for summer, fitting into old jeans, or chasing a number on the scale.

It's about getting fit for life.

It's about helping husbands, wives, moms, dads, grandparents, and friends become stronger, healthier, and more confident so they can keep doing the things they love for years to come.

The name hasn't changed.

But the mission has.

And over the next few days, I'd love to share that story with you. ❤️
