July is recognized as Disability Pride Month, a time to challenge the stigma surrounding the word disability and recognize that disability is a natural part of the human experience and identity.

The colors of the Disability Pride flag each represent part of our community:
❤️ Red represents physical disabilities.
💛 Gold represents neurodiversity.
🤍 White represents non-visible and undiagnosed disabilities.
💙 Blue represents emotional and psychiatric disabilities.

🌟 Foster Parent of the Month 🌟

This month, we're excited to recognize Mike and Dawn, who have been licensed foster parents with our agency since 2010! 🎉

Mike enjoys spending his free time fishing and caring for their hobby farm, while Dawn loves baking and making memories with their grandchildren, especially the many children who have become part of their family over the years.

Their foster care journey began with a simple "yes" to providing respite care. After seeing the difference they could make, they completed their licensing classes and opened their home to foster children. They first welcomed boys into their home and later transitioned to caring for girls. Through it all, one thing has remained the same. They love having children in their home. As they shared, "When no one is here except Mike and me, it feels weird."

For anyone considering becoming a foster parent, Mike and Dawn offer this encouragement:

💙 "If you love kids and feel an empty spot in your life, give it a try. Start with respite and see how it goes."

Thank you, Mike and Dawn, for your 16 years of dedication, compassion, and commitment to providing a safe, loving home for children in need. Your willingness to open your hearts and home has made a lasting impact on so many lives. We are incredibly grateful to have you as part of our foster care family! ❤️

Community Programs’ staff members, Jenny, Parker, Marilyn, Kay, and Emily, participated in the 6th Annual Collaboration, Recognition, and Unity (CRU) Event hosted by WRRWC this past Tuesday. The event provided a meaningful opportunity for networking, professional development, and reflection.

Did you know that Anu Family Services provides more than treatment-level foster care? We provide an array of human-focused services that assist both individuals and families in their journeys of healing.

The Community Based Flexible Support Program provides in-home and community-based support to help children and adults build independence, strengthen daily living skills, and improve overall well-being.

Using a flexible, client-driven approach, Flexible Support Specialists provide hands-on education and support tailored to each person’s goals. This may include building routines, practicing self-regulation, budgeting, improving self-care, connecting to community resources, and developing healthy support systems.

The program supports individuals experiencing mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or severe emotional disturbances, with services focused on promoting recovery, confidence, and long-term independence.

At its core, the program is about meeting people where they are and helping them build the skills and support needed to thrive in their everyday lives.
