Estelle Smith Moretz Dillon, 87, of Eden passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Jacob’s Creek Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Overlook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 pm before the service at the funeral home.

Estelle was born in Rockingham County on July 24, 1939, a daughter of Charlie William Smith and Beulah Carter Smith, both deceased. She retired from Floyd’s Curb Market, the business she co-owned with her late husband, Floyd Dillon.

Estelle is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Rodgers and husband Terry of Belmont, NC; her son, Danny Moretz of Madison; her siblings, Nancy Earps, Charles Smith and Margaret Petty; and her grandchildren, Michelle Ledford, Jamison Rodgers and Holly Barlow.

Gary Howard Thompson, 71, of Eden passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Eden Rehab and Nursing Center after many years of declining health.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Boone & Cooke Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 pm on Wednesday before the service at the funeral home.

Gary was born in Eden on February 9, 1955, a son of Paul William Thompson, Sr. and Christine Huff Thompson, both deceased. He retired from E.I. DuPont, Inc. He was a big NASCAR fan and loved going to races in any state. He also loved dirt track racing.

Gary never met a stranger and was always up for any kind of adventure that came along. He was quick witted, with a great sense of humor. Laughter was always a part of his being.

Gary loved his family. He was married to the love of his life, Kimberly “Kim” Murphy Thompson for 36 years. She survives him along with their son, William “Reid” Thompson of Eden; his sister, Carolyn Hodges (Hugh) of Eden; his brother, Paul Thompson, Jr. (Harriet) of Danville, VA; He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends and his racing buddies, Mike Whitlow and Robbie Staley.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the National Kidney Foundation or to the Rockingham County Humane Society, 205 Boone Road, Eden, NC 27288.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Eden Rehab and Davita Dialysis for their outstanding care during his illness.

Russell Walter Hunter III (Perch), age 85, of Eden passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, following a brief stay at Gibson House, part of Ancora Compassionate Care in Wentworth.

Perch was the son of Russell and Mable Hunter, both deceased. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Letitia Hunter (Tish).

Perch is survived by his son, Rusty Hunter (Regina) of Boonville; his daughter, Tammy Knight (Hal) of Concord; his grandsons, Blake Hunter (Heather) and Brady Hunter; his granddaughter, Ashley Miller (Dalton); three great grandchildren, Tenley and Evans Hunter and Hayden Miller; and his brother, Ernie Hunter.

Perch was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the US Navy serving on the USS Alcor-AK-259. He was an avid golfer, an excellent poker player and a long-time member of the Eden Moose Lodge. He was a man that loved his family and friends deeply.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Cindy and Jimmy Joyce for their support and everlasting friendship. Their appreciation is also extended to UNC Rockingham Nursing Facility and Ancora Care for their care and compassion. Thank you for the many friends who visited him during his time there.

A private service will be held for the family. A Celebration of Life in honor of Perch will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026 at The Farm House, 912 Bethlehem Church Road in Eden from 1:00-4:00 pm.

Janie Marshall Eanes, 90, of Eden passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at UNC Rockingham Healthcare Nursing Center.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2 pm prior to the service at the cemetery.

Janie was born in Stokes County, a daughter of Arthur Marshall and Vernice Pyrtle Rakestraw, both deceased. She retired from Fieldcrest Mills and owned Flowers by Janie. She was a charter member of Pleasant View Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher and the church treasurer. Janie will be greatly missed by her grandchildren and her great grandchildren who loved her dearly.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James “Jimmy” Eanes; and her sister, Barbara Marshall Janney.

Janie is survived by her children, Jeff Eanes and Janet Ellington, both of Eden; her daughter-in-law, Teresa Eanes of Reidsville; her grandchildren, Joshua Eanes (Andrea) and Ben Eanes (Lauren); her great grandchildren, Harrison, Hannah, Anderson, Charles, Elizabeth, Norah and Liam; her brother-in-law, Ron Janney; her niece, Lisa King; and her nephews, Don Janney and Mike Janney.

Daniel Edward Brown, 36, of Eden passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at High Point Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at King Memorial Baptist Church.

Daniel was born in Eden on July 23, 1989, a son of Wanda Hill Soyars and the late Herbert Edward Brown. He worked for Linon Powell Home Décor. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was the best fisherman ever and loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Tabitha Doss, of the home; his sons, Donavan Brown of New Kent, VA and Hayden Brown of Eden; his mother, Wanda Hill Soyars of Reidsville; his siblings, Keisha Brown of Reidsville and Ricky Dyson of Eden; his sister-in-law, April Swinney (Anthony) of Axton, VA: his special friends, Lynn, Javier, Zack, Jamie, Dustin, Buddy and Randall; and numerous nieces and nephews.
