We are preparing for our Trunk-or-Treat here at the community! Orange outfits, spooky jewelry and even some vanilla cakes with orange icing that the residents made! Our creative club was very busy today as we made our own spooky shirts with the Cricut machine. Each resident placed their vinyl design on their shirt, and we pressed them with the heat press. Stay tuned for the completed projects tomorrow! We will be having a fashion show of our spooky shirts!
Our Trunk-or-Treat for the community is on Friday, October 30th from 4-6 pm. Bring the kids and family for a good time!

Every month we have a social for our newest resident who moved into the community. This month we had a Banana split bar, with all the toppings! Our resident ambassadors and fellow residents helped welcome our new crew. We want to extend a warm welcome to Ruth, Edna, Robert, and Shelby. We are so glad to have you here!

Spooky socks and painting mini harvest pins are how we started off the last week of October! The residents enjoyed showing associates their bright socks; it was definitely a conversation starter! The harvest pins were such a hit. People painted multiple, one to keep and one for a friend. 🎃

On Wednesday, October 21st, we celebrated National Reptile Awareness Day by having some reptiles visit our community. Dave's Reptile Discovery & Rescue out of Reidsville, NC, brought the reptiles to us! Dave brought quite a few friends such as a bearded Dragon, an emperor scorpion, tortoises and turtles, a frog, and a snake!

He made sure to tell us all about each animal, how long he's had them and what they eat. The Reptile Rescue is home to over 50 reptiles! With that many mouths to feed you can only image the amount of greens, kale and lettuce they go through to feed everyone.

The residents were able to feel the texture and skin of the animals and even hold one if they were up to it! Thank you to Dave and his wife for bringing a few of your reptiles to visit us here at Brookdale Eden! It was definitely an interesting afternoon!

Yesterday we made a visit to local favorite in Reidsville. The Donut House is known for their big homemade donuts that you can have filled with a variety of fillings. They had a variety of donuts to choose from, from cinnamon rolls and bear claws to apple fritters and even a classic glazed donut! It was hard to decide what to choose, so they residents decided we needed to get one of each!

Our resident's gathered around the table for an afternoon blind donut taste test. Each donut was cut into small bite size pieces, residents were given blindfolds and the game began. The residents had to eat the donut and then try and figure out the flavors. This sounds like an easy task but our residents will tell you it was a little difficult! Even a few staff members joined us for the fun.

In the pictures below you will see some residents blindfolded eating their donuts trying to decipher what the flavor is, you will see some writing down their "flavor guesses", and you will see some peeking from underneath their blindfolds! 😂 It was a nice day to get out and enjoy the fresh air and getting a sweet treat from The Donut House was a great surprise! 🍩

Thursday, October 15th was the 75th anniversary of the "I Love Lucy" show. The show premiered on CBS and ran for six seasons until May 6, 1957. To celebrate, we played our own version of Jeopardy, all about "I Love Lucy." We had six categories for the residents to choose from such as Lucy Ricardo's Antics, Ricky Ricardo & Music, The Neighbors, Famous I Love Lucy episodes, The stars behind the show and Lucy's Life and funny facts.

It was fun reminiscing about the funny antics of Lucille Ball and her dreams of making it in show biz! Stay tuned for the next round of Jeopardy, Brookdale Eden style!

Here at Brookdale, one of the duties of the resident coordinator is to interview our residents when they move into our community. During these interviews, we discuss many things, from their childhood to their working years, raising a family, traveling, hobbies and interests. The questions often spark many memories, and with those memories come a story of that individual's life. It is the best way for our resident engagement coordinator to get to know each resident on a more personal level!

Here, we have Ruth. She has been in our community for about a month. Ruth pointed out several beautiful pieces of artwork painted by her late husband, Franklin, her angel collection where each one has a special story, and several pictures of counted cross-stitch, all handmade by Mrs. Ruth! She explained how the cross-stitch was done and made it sound so easy! Even though it probably is not an easy task. She also showed a beautiful handmade rocking chair that was made in 1936; it is so well crafted and still in mint condition.

It was truly a pleasure getting to know all about Ruth and her life, and we are so glad to have her here at Brookdale Eden.

The purpose of the Welcome Ambassador program is to encourage current residents to assist in welcoming new residents during their first few months of the move-in process while becoming part of the community family. The Welcome Ambassadors may also assist in greeting prospects and/or family influencers during visits in the community.
