Thomas "Tom" A. Mallory, II

Thomas “Tom” Arthur Mallory, II, 54, of Erie, PA formerly of Edinboro, died Thursday, September 3, 2026 at his favorite place, the family property. He was born in Erie, PA on June 4, 1972, the son of Thomas Arthur Mallory and the late Jane Mallory.

Tom grew up in Wesleyville, PA where he attended St. James School and Mercyhurst Prep. He had a love for wrestling, which he passed down to his son. Tom was well known in the Tool and Die industry. He worked for many shops over the years, ending his career at Tessy Tooling.

In his free time, Tom enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler and spending time in the country with his family. Tom belonged to many social clubs and enjoyed volunteering his time at the American Legion.

Survivors include his son: Brett Mallory, of Edinboro; three daughters, Megan (Ryan) Panella, April Mallory, both of Erie, Noelle (Tyler) Stebbins, of North East, PA. His sister; Michele Mallory Lewis (Art Hilinski), of Edinboro; two grandchildren, Anthony and Allie Panella. Appreciation is extended to all who provided support during his time of need.

We are sure he is with his dear friend the late Timothy Neugebauer now.

Deana J. Lasher

Deana J. (Scheerbaum) Lasher, 67, of Cambridge Springs,died Thursday, September 3, 2026 at AHN St. Vincent Hospital. She was born in Butler, PA on October 26, 1958, the daughter of the late Melvin and Bonita (Kriley) Scheerbaum.

While in Karns City High School, Deana played the flute and piccolo in her school bands. She was also active in 4H and showed horses at the Butler Fair and other local shows. She graduated with honors and immediately enrolled in Saint Vincent Health Center School of Nursing. She graduated on May 26, 1978 and started working on the 7th floor of Saint Vincent Hospital as a registered nurse. It was there that she met a patient who would become her husband for over 46 years. Deana also worked at Dr. Steinbrink's office and other area hospitals in various capacities including operating room, labor and delivery, and floor nurse. After Deana retired in 2023, she continued to be involved in nursing, most recently as a school nurse at the Charter School of Excellence.

Deana was an excellent crafter with a knack for ideas for any project; from cards for any occasion to wedding invitations. She was involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters for many years and was also active in the Cambridge Springs High School Marching Band.

In addition to her parents, Deana was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin, and the man she called “Mr. Frank”, her stepfather whom she considered her real father. Frank loved Deana as his own daughter, as well.

Deana is survived by her husband, William Lasher; their daughter, Alanna (Christopher) Markley and their daughters, Haylie and Ella; her son, Cliff (Brianna) Lasher and their children, Madison, Tyler, Kiara and Jaimey. She is also survived by her brothers, Charles and Allen Scheerbaum; and her sisters, Marilyn Hall and Carole Scheerbaum.

It can't be left unsaid what a competent, compassionate and thoughtful person Deana was, caring for Bill for over 40 years through all of his medical challenges and always with love.

Deana leaves us all with tremendous heartache, even though we know God has other plans for her...a well earned, eternal peace.

James H. Bucksbee

James H. Bucksbee, 84, of McKean, died Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Edinboro Manor. He was born in his Grandmother Horak's house in Reynoldsville, PA on Easter morning, April 5, 1942, the son of the late Claude (Buckey) and Veronica (T***s) Bucksbee. He leaves behind his wife, Diana; two daughters, Christine Bucksbee of Edinboro, and Kathleen Bucksbee of McKean; three grandsons, Andrew (Crystal) Orris, Craig (Laurna) Orris and Phillip (Lea) Orris, all of McKean; six great grandchildren, Alastor, Phoenix, Scarlett, Sophia, Clayton, Liam James arriving soon, and Adelaide Orris; and his fur-kids, Wi******er and Re*****on, and grand fur-kid, Zoey, who followed him everywhere. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lisa Bucksbee, of Omaha, NE; a niece, Karen Bucksbee; and three nephews, John Jr., Steve and Brian Bucksbee. He was preceded in death by his brother, John D. Bucksbee and first wife, Patricia; and a niece, Kelly Bucksbee Gibson.

In 1944, Jim's family moved briefly to Erie, PA before moving to Meadville in early 1945 where, one month after Jim's 3rd birthday, his father was in an accident that would later claim his life. He survived for 3 months in Meadville Spencer Hospital with third degree burns over much of his body.

Jim's mother cooked for the priest at St. Agatha Church in Meadville. Although he was not yet of school age, the priest sent Jim to St. Agatha School with his older brother to keep him busy. He would attend school there through 6th grade. When Jim was 7, he would get up at 5 a.m., 6 days a week, to help the milkman, Mr. Joe Cerrinceone from Roha's Dairy, deliver milk. Mr. Cerrinceone would then drop him at school at 8:25. After school, he would deliver the Meadville Tribune along South Cottage/S. Park Avenue/S. Main Streets. He and his brother also sold the Sunday paper in front of St. Agatha Church after all Masses. On Saturday's, he'd hitchhike to Saegertown, where he mowed the Saegertown Distributors' lawn.

In 1955, Jim's mother married Hass Hoovler and the family moved to a farm in Athens Township (Drake Hill). He attended Townville Consolidated School District and graduated in 1961. During school he was active in the FFA and held various officer positions. He showed Brown Swiss dairy cows at the Crawford County Fair and Harrisburg Farm show. He received the FFA Keystone Farmer Degree on January 11, 1961. Generally only 3 to 5 percent of FFA members receive this recognition degree. He also was a member of the basketball team, but resigned during his senior year to run the family farm by himself after his stepfather deserted them.

After graduation, Jim was accepted at Indian Institute of Technology, Fort Wayne, where he graduated from in 1965 with a BS in Aerospace Engineering. He was on the Dean's List 12 of the 15 quarters he attended there and was always proud of getting through college in just over 3 years. He was a member and captain of the college fencing team (epee). During college he was a drafting checker and tutored and became lifelong friends with Bob and Charlotte Hyer of Washington Court House, Ohio and later Raleigh, North Carolina.

Upon graduation, Jim married his high school sweetheart and moved to Seattle to work for Boeing Aircraft Company. He was then transferred to the Boeing plant in Morton, PA to support the development of their wind tunnel construction. After a year at Morton he took an engineering position in the Industrial Products Division of LORD Corporation in Erie. While working there full time, he earned his MS in Engineering Sciences from Penn State, a Penn State Paralegal Certificate, a Penn State Managerial Accounting Certificate and his Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Professional Engineering Certificate. He held several positions in engineering and engineering management during his 38 year career at LORD. He retired in 2005, but rejoined LORD in their Industrial Group in 2008, working 20+ hours a week, until his "final" retirement in 2015.

His last 10 years at LORD resulted in over 40 engineering trips to Taipei, China, Japan, Malaysia, Brazil, England, France, Germany, not to mention many domestic engineering calls to manufacturing plants of Peterbilt, Freightliner, Kenworth, John Deere, Caterpillar, Mercury, OMC, Case, Ingersoll Rand, and 15+ rapid transit authorities and consulting engineers.

Jim was a founding member of the McKean Lions Club, a life member of the McKean Usher's Club, and a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in McKean. He held 7 US patents. He was the first Zoning Administrator for McKean Borough. He resigned that position after ten years when he became a member of the General McLane School District School Board, where he served for 36+ years, 10 of those years as president. Parallel to this, he served on the Erie County Technical School JOC School Board for 29+ years, serving 15 continuous years as president. Whenever asked how long he'd been on the school board he liked to say "55 years", just to get a reaction. Prior to this he served as the McKean High School Band Booster president and enjoyed his years helping them. He was a member of the Gem City Outdoorsmen Club, where he enjoyed target shooting with his grandsons and friend, Jack Ball. He enjoyed going to the Sunday flea market in Waterford with his buddy, Rod Colburn. He was an avid reader of the Old West and loved the trivia associated with the West. For several years he volunteered and marked the football field for the McKean Jets football team and held the yard marker, always willing to help the coach, his longtime friend and working associate, Keith Hedderick (deceased in 2015). After retiring in 2005 he became a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society and made many trips to Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Buffalo, taking patients for appointments or surgery.

Jim was a founding member of the McKean Lions Club, a life member of the McKean Usher's Club, and a member of St. Francis Xavier Church in McKean.

Patrick H. Lyons

Patrick Henry Lyons, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away at home on August 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories. Born on October 16, 1939, in Erie, Pennsylvania, Patrick was the beloved son of the late Joseph and Florence Lyons.

Throughout his life, he exemplified resilience and a steadfast commitment to his family and community. Patrick graduated from Tech Memorial High School in 1957, demonstrating early on his determination and dedication to personal growth. His thirst for knowledge led him to later achieve an Associate's degree from Penn State Behrend.

Patrick served in the US Army, guarding East Germany during the Cold War, and was called back to service during the Cuban Missile Crisis, exemplifying courage and dedication to national service.

In his professional life, Patrick was a man of many talents. He owned and operated Patrick's Beauty Salon in the 1970s, where he brought beauty and joy to his clientele. Later, he joined Conrail (CSX), where he worked diligently as a welder foreman and safety liaison until his retirement.

Patrick was an avid outdoorsman who found peace and joy in nature, particularly through hunting and fishing. His true passion, however, was carpentry, where he could express his creativity and skill with his hands. He loved helping others with their home projects. Those who knew him will fondly remember his sense of humor, kind nature, strong work ethic, and unwavering family values.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond "Red" Lyons; his sisters, Jean (Coe) Lyons, Joanne (Samarco) Lyons, Winniferd (Dolde) Lyons, and his twin sister, Patty (Niemic) Lyons.

Patrick is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Ellen; his daughter, Lisa (Marfinetz) Lyons, his son, Craig Patrick Lyons, and his cherished grandchildren, Jake and Nicholas Lyons, and Marshall and Mitchell Marfinetz. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Darin and Brian Crew and their children, Eloise, Henry, Cricket and Hawthorn Crew.

Scott C. Otteni

Scott Christopher Otteni passed away Saturday August 15, 2026 at St. Vincent Hospital, Erie, PA, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, legendary gatherings, and unforgettable memories with those he loved most. Known to many simply as Scott, he also wore many affectionate titles over the years - whether you knew him as Scooter, Muffin, Skeeter, Barney, Mongo, Captain or Scottie-boy, you knew you were in for a good time.

Born on March 5, 1964 in Erie, PA, Scott was the beloved son of the late Shirley and Alan Otteni. He grew up in McKean, PA and was a 1982 General McLane High School graduate where he was a gifted wrestler and football player. After high school he briefly attended Edinboro University of PA.

Scott was the life of the party, always armed with a joke, quick with a playful jab, and happiest when surrounded by friends and family. Few things brought him as much joy as sharing a few rounds with his brothers, and “other brothers”, cracking open a cold one, or adding to his cherished beer can collection. A dedicated worker most of his adult life, Scott contributed his talents to the family business, Otteni Industries, and spent time working with ServePro. He also took pride in lending a hand and tackling side jobs alongside his good friend, Cubby. Above all, Scott will be remembered for his generous spirit, unshakeable sense of humor, his love for Matt Merten’s Braunschweiger dip, rhubarb pie, smoked pig, pickled anything, and not to forget peanut butter and pickles (IFYKYK) and the genuine camaraderie he brought into every room.

An enthusiast for anything fast and fun, Scott’s passions ran deep. In his younger years he lived for the cold weather and the thrill of snowmobiles (he was notorious for breaking down), whether carving through the winter trails or cheering on the action at snowmobile grass drags. In his free time, he was a proud member of the McKean Volunteer Hose Company, and spent summer afternoons playing softball with the guys. Scott was also immensely proud of his first ride, a truck he named the “Blue Jean Machine”, a distinct reflection of his unique style and personality. He was a die-hard fan of NASCAR racing, cheered passionately for Penn State Football, and never missed a good time at Edinboro’s Homecoming - especially enjoying one of his tasty Bloody Mary’s.

Scott’s warmth, big personality, and love for a good time will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of sharing a drink or a laugh with him.

Scott is survived by his children, Nicholas Scott Otteni (Emily) and Katie Otteni; two grandsons, Miles Scott Otteni and Asher Holden Otteni; his brother, Patrick Otteni (Roseanne); sisters, Mary Beth Brown and Stacey Pope (Dean); uncle, Gerald Otteni; nieces, Breanne Otteni, Shelby Brown (Kenny), Emily Brown, Abigail Chupp, and Hannah Merten; nephew, Adam Merten; several great nieces and nephews; and his former wife, Denise Otteni-Jones who he remained good friends with over the years.

In addition to his parents, Shirley and Alan Otteni, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Ella Otteni and Lawrence and Norma Meyer; brother, Jeffrey Otteni; grandson, Holden Gregory Otteni; and long-time friend Thom Gebhardt.

Richard D. Pifer

Richard D. Pifer, 91, of Edinboro, died Wednesday, August 5, 2026 at St. Vincent Hospital. He was born in Big Run, PA on April 26, 1935, the son of the late Davis and Goldie Pifer.

Richard served in the US Army. He attended Penn State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Arts. He spent the majority of his career in Human Resources for various companies, including the US Postal Service for 24 years. He was a member of F&AM Punxsutawney, PA and BPOE Reynoldsville, PA.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and was an avid fan of Penn State football, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He enjoyed hunting, golf, and stock trading, and spent a great deal of time creating tin artwork, which he and his wife, Tona, sold at craft shows. In his later years, he enjoyed meeting his group of “cronies” for weekly coffee and conversation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Tona, in 2025, and by one sister, Lorraine Jordan.

Richard is survived by two sons, Wayne (Becky) Pifer of Corry, and Mark (Michelle) Pifer of Edinboro; three grandchildren, Kelly (Collin) Smith of Pittsburgh, Madison Pifer, and Matthew Pifer; and one great-grandchild, Blaire Smith. He is also survived by a sister, Diane (Max) Neal, two brothers, Roger (Judy) Pifer and Randall (Beth) Pifer; and several nieces and nephews.

Karl E. Nordberg

I suspect I was born lucky 84 years ago. Life was good to me. But then I also worked hard at making it successful. I seemed to always make the right decisions at the right time in life and had no regrets. Oh, there were upsets that might frustrate some. My oldest son Brian died at age 23 from diabetes complications, and my wife died in 2014 from cancer complications after 49 ½ years of a fulfilling marriage. My sons Kevin and Keith have successful lives of which I am proud.

I spent 39 years of my adult life teaching with 37 years of that at Edinboro University. I am grateful for that opportunity and the retirement that that and 2 years of high school teaching provided. I started out at Edinboro as a temporary professor in 1966 and rose through the ranks to full professor, retiring as emeritus in 2003. I commend my mentors through the years, Dr. James Flynn and Dr. Susan Criswell, for caring about my success.

I suppose my work at Edinboro University was my crowning achievement but also my family and in 1985 building a 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom home. I don't mean hiring a contractor to build it. I mean the five of us designing and building it. Son, Kevin, was a mighty helper at the ripe old age of 14. He spent his entire summer working with me on the build. A photo shows the 3 youngsters, Brian, Kevin and Keith, up on the porch roof putting siding on the house - yes they learned how and did roofing shingles too. That Christmas we did not celebrate because there was no money or time. We all survived it well. One of the boys in later years said they all thought I was crazy: "we can't build a house". But we did and the "mansion" in the woods is a tribute to all their hard work. And that work ethic that we nurtured was good for all of us. But none of us ever wanted to build another house.

I was preceded in death by my parents, Gustave Robert and Treva Marie, what seems a long time ago, my brother Donald in 1994, and my son Brian (diesel mechanic) in 1993 and my wife Barbara in 2014. Yes, that is a lot of loss but I have always believed that life is for the living. My wife, Barbara, made me promise to find someone and not be lonely. That is love. I was fortunate to have many folks enjoy restaurant dinners with me.

I am survived by my son Kevin, a retired Lieutenant in the Rockford, Illinois police department and his wife, Tammy, and grandsons, Scott & Sean, and my son Keith, senior procurement specialist, at Parker Lord Manufacturing in Erie, Pa. and his wife, Lori. What an honor to have both men as my offspring. Also, my brother, Norman, and his wife, Chris, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and my brother, Rob, and his wife, Marge, of Lillington, NC. and my sister, Wanda, and husband, Bill, of Cumberland, Maryland.

I have loved life and it has been good to me. Death does not concern me. It is just the end of a wonderful adventure that it was my good fortune to participate in.

There will be no viewing or memorial service. The Glunt Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Edinboro, is in charge of cremation services.

Linda L. (Swift) Aleksandrowicz

Linda L. (Swift) Aleksandrowicz, 72, of Erie, formerly of Edinboro, died Monday, June 8, 2026 at AHN St. Vincent. She was born in Conneaut, Ohio on May 19, 1954, the daughter of the late Neil and Laura Swift.

Linda was a 1972 graduate of General McLane High School. She then attended Edinboro University earning a bachelor’s degree in Accounting. She later attended Tri-State Institute and earned her LPN nursing degree.

She was an active volunteer for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society in Erie and was previously on the Parents Board of Directors for Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. After her son, Jonathan Hanson, died of cancer in 2003, she founded the Pediatric Cancer Support Group in Erie. In 2011 she was elected for two terms as an Erie City School District School Board member.

Linda had several different jobs throughout her career. She was an accountant for various local companies, a sales associate at Kaufmann’s, manager of Yorktown Plaza, a nurse at St. Vincent Hospital, a home care giver, and finally she worked with her husband, Mark, as a receptionist at Aleks Powersports.

Her life passions included reading and caring for her several cats.

Other than her parents and son, Jonathan, she was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Swift.

Survivors include her husband, Mark Aleksandrowicz; a son, Matthew Hanson of Erie; her stepchildren, James (Kayla) Aleksandrowicz, Kylie (Traecy) Mulvin, and Stephanie Aleksandrowicz, all of Erie; three brothers, Jeffrey Swift of Edinboro, Douglas (Debbie) Swift of Las Vegas, and Timothy (Jolene) Swift of North Tonawanda, NY; two sisters, Kathy (Lee) Wisniewski of Jacksonville, FL, and Debby (Rick) Sullivan of Erie; and two grandsons, Braeden Ghaemaghamy.and Archer Mulvin, both from Erie.
