Your ER visit may be over, but your care shouldn’t stop there. After a visit to a hospital emergency room or freestanding emergency center, following up with your primary care physician is an important part of your continued care.
Having worked in emergency medicine, Dr. Roman Esquivel understands firsthand the importance of what happens after a patient leaves the ER.
A follow-up visit gives your primary care physician an opportunity to:
🩺 Review your ER diagnosis, testing and treatment
💊 Discuss new medications or medication changes
💬 Check on symptoms that may still be present
📋 Coordinate additional testing or specialist care, if needed
❤️ Make sure your recovery is moving in the right direction
Following up with your primary care physician within 7–10 days after an ER visit—or sooner if directed in your discharge instructions—is an important part of your continued care and overall health.
If your symptoms worsen or you develop new or concerning symptoms, follow your ER discharge instructions or seek appropriate emergency care.
