New episode is up, friends! πŸŽ™οΈ

I don't use the word "forgiveness" in my office. Haven't for a long time. In this episode of Let's Sit With This, I finally explain why.

Here's the thing β€” I hear "forgiveness" used two ways, and both bother me. Sometimes people use it to bypass their own pain and convince themselves they're "fine" with something that never got processed. And sometimes it gets used to pressure someone into staying close to the person who hurt them, even when that relationship still isn't safe.

So in my office, we talk about healing instead. Healing is one-sided β€” it's just about you, and it doesn't require the other person to be present, aware, or even alive. Reconciliation is a completely separate, optional step, and it's mostly on the person who caused the harm to earn their way back.

In this episode I get into:

Why forgiveness and healing aren't the same thing
The phrases people use (often without realizing it) to guilt someone into forgiving
A 4-part checklist I use with clients to tell if reconciliation is real, or just wishful thinking
The difference between "big wound" trauma and the slower damage of years of small hurts

If you've ever felt ashamed for not being "over" something yet, or been pushed to forgive someone who never actually changed β€” I made this one for you. Give it a listen and let me know what resonates. πŸ’›

New episode is live! πŸŽ™οΈ

Have you ever felt stuck in the same argument, the same distance, the same pattern that just never changes?

This week I'm joined by Megan Secrest, LCSW β€” couples therapist, EMDR certified, and one of my favorite people to talk shop with β€” and we are getting into it.

We dig into Terry Real's five losing strategies from The New Rules of Marriage, walk through Megan's viral post "10 Fantastic Ways to Get Less of What You Want in Your Relationships," and talk about what's actually happening underneath the patterns that push people away β€” and what to do instead.

Spoiler: needing to be right, controlling, shutting down, retaliating, withdrawing β€” these aren't character flaws. They're strategies. Losing ones. And we all use them.

This one is for anyone in a relationship of any kind. You don't have to be in crisis for it to be useful.

New episode is live β€” and this one is personal. πŸŽ™οΈ

I'm a therapist. I know how this is supposed to work. And I still had to learn every hard lesson myself β€” sitting in that chair, just like everyone else does.

Five therapists. Thirteen years. The dread, the almost-quitting, and the work that has genuinely changed my life.

This one is for anyone who tried therapy and quit. Or has been putting it off.
