Last Thursday I had the joy of serving as a back‑up doula for my dear friend Lauren with Sparrow Song Birth Services while she enjoyed a much‑needed family vacation🏞️. Side note: our doula community here is truly something special — so many compassionate, supportive women lifting one another up. 💜
This sweet couple was preparing to welcome their first baby. At 41 weeks, they were scheduled for an induction that morning, though we'd been communicating through the week and they’d been wrestling with the hope of going into labor naturally and trying to decide what the best decision was for their baby and their family. By the time they arrived at the hospital, contractions had fizzled out, and an exam showed no change from earlier in the week. With intuition and courage, they chose to be admitted and move forward with induction techniques that they preferred.
But birth had its own plan. 🙌🏼😍
Once settled into their room, another check revealed she was already about 5 cm and her water was leaking🤯. I arrived and supported her through movement, position changes, and hydrotherapy as worship music filled the room. Then came a *truly* Holy, unforgettable moment🙏🏼 — her husband gently held her face, singing the words of the song playing. She softened, melted into his hands, and surrendered fully to each wave.😍🥹
From that moment on, her body moved with such grace and ease. She quickly reached full dilation😅, and in a calm, peaceful 25 minutes, she brought her baby boy into her arms. No induction techniques were needed at all.🎉 They trusted her body and it's ability, trusted the process, and followed exactly what each moment asked of them.❤️
It was beautiful. They did it — together. Praise the Lord! What a beautiful gift it is to witness such Heaven on Earth! 🥹😭🥰🙌🏼
