Joyce E. Barry

Joyce E. Barry our beloved mom and grandma died peacefully on May 29th, 2026, with her family by her side. Despite experiencing a stroke several years earlier, her infectious love for life, adventurous spirit, and fiercely independent personality stayed with her to the end. Joyce was born December 15th, 1937, in Kirkland, WA as the first of three children to Robert and Catherine Barry of Carnation, WA. Joyce loved growing up on the family farms in Duvall and Carnation, and fondly recalled many memories of milking cows, riding horses, and ice skating on the family lake. After graduating from Holy Names Academy in Seattle, she completed her studies with a degree in Spanish from Marylhurst College in Oregon. Joyce worked as a corrections officer at the King County Jail for over 25 years, retiring in 1997 to spend more time with her grandchildren, travel the world, and live life to the fullest. A longtime resident of Mountlake Terrace, she served 8 years on the city council and was active in various civic and church clubs locally. She had many passions in life, but nothing was more important to her than family and her Catholic faith. Her boisterous laugh, love of music, and larger-than-life personality will be remembered fondly by her family, her many friends, and all who knew her. Joyce is survived by her son Michael Ramsey (Brenda), grandchildren Julie (Wyatt) and Kevin, her daughter Elizabeth Barry, grandson Michael, her brother Robert, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Roberta. A requiem mass in the traditional Latin rite will be celebrated at North American Martyrs Catholic Church 9924 232nd St SW Edmonds, WA, 90820 on Monday June 15th, 2026, at 11am. Immediately following the mass, interment will be at Holyrood Cemetery with a reception at North American Martyrs from 1:30-3pm. Bernard John Goldman

Bernard John Goldman passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2026 in Seattle, Washington, at the age of 82.

Bernie was born on February 18, 1943 in Odanah, Ashland County, Wisconsin on the Bad River Indian Reservation, to Bernice Barbano and Joseph M. Goldman. His Aunts and Uncles helped his single mom raise him. He was a proud member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community of the Lake Superior Band of Chippewa Indians.

Bernie graduated in 1961 from DePadua High School. His classmates knew him as John and gave him the nickname “Bear.” He enjoyed playing football and was in other activities including choir. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Bernie was honorably discharged after three years of dedicated service - a service he spoke of with lifelong pride.

Following his military service, Bernie moved to Chicago, where he met Donna Hendricks. They married in 1966 and welcomed their daughter, Michelle, two years later. In 1970 Bernie moved his family to Missoula, Montana so he could connect with his father and pursue higher education at The University of Montana. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1974 and went on to receive his Juris Doctorate in 1977 from the UM Law School. Bernie practiced law alongside his father in their successful firm, Goldman and Goldman. His marriage to Donna ended in 1984. During the 1980s, Bernie had several brief relationships. One relationship led to the birth of his son, Devlin Murray, in 1986.

A series of events in 1987 brought significant change to Bernie’s life (if you know you know). He began a new chapter in the Seattle area in 1990, establishing a delivery business. He reconnected with Linda Wikstrom in 1995 and she joined him in Seattle and was with him until the end. Bernie had many friends, an active social life, and countless adventures with Linda including international travel.

Bernie was an avid football fan throughout his life. He especially loved cheering for the Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks, and Montana Grizzlies.

Bernie is survived by his partner of the last 30 years, Linda Wikstrom, and her children Jennifer (Tushar) Devidayal and William (Birgit) Wikstrom IV; his ex-wife Donna Hendricks with whom he remained friends; daughter Michelle Avery; son Devlin (Brooke) Murray; grandchildren Patricia (Daniel) Johnsen, Nicole Johnsen, Vada Murray, Evan Murray, Sanjeet Devidayal, Katelyn Devidayal, Lisa Wikstrom and Anika Wikstrom; brother Joe Goldman; half-brother David (Nancy) Lindmeir; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernie is preceded in death by his parents; half-brothers Paul Goldman and Barry Goldman; and son-in-law Mark Avery.

A small graveside service with military honors will be held on June 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Missoula City Cemetery.

Joseph Ridge

Joseph Patrick Ridge, 90, of Bothell, WA, passed away May 3, 2026. He was born January 29, 1936 on the family farm in Red Lake Falls, MN. Joe was the only son of Josephine Linnertz and Patrick Ridge. He had four sisters, Ann, Ag, Rose, and Mary Jo. Eventually, the Ridge family moved and settled in Anaconda, MT.

In Anaconda, Joe attended school and at age fourteen worked for a local store delivering groceries. When Joe turned eighteen, he began a career on the Butte, Anaconda & Pacific Railway on the section gang, and later became a switchman.

While at a dance in Butte, MT, Joe met Dolores Morris, the love of his life and best friend. They married in February 1955 and started their family in Anaconda. They had three children: Joe, John and Colleen. In 1964 Joe and Dolores moved their family to Seattle, WA in the Shoreline area in pursuit of better opportunities.

Shortly after the move to Seattle, Joe successfully pursued computer programing training, while working full time at night on the Burlington Northern Railroad. He never used his computer programming training believing he was not suited for an office job. Joe had several other jobs but was hired as a warehouseman for the Port of Seattle. He was promoted to foreman and managed several of the Port’s largest warehouses. He remained at the Port of Seattle for many years enjoying a long and successful career until his retirement.

Joe and Dolores loved their family and enjoyed happy years in Shoreline, where their children grew and eventually got married and had their own children.

It was during their retirement years that Joe and Dolores were able to immerse themselves in being grandparents. It was a role they both embraced with great joy and dedication. They never wavered on attending athletic games, graduations, weddings, and other important milestones, even traveling frequently to grandchildren on the east coast. Their strong family values were at the core of all of what they did. Their grandchildren were able to develop strong and lifelong relationships with both.

After Dolores passed away, Joe continued to nurture those relationships still attending basketball games, graduations and weddings and traveling to the East Coast frequently.

Joe was able to get to know, and at least, meet all four of his great-grandchildren as well.

Joe had a big heart, strong faith and convictions, and great sense of community. He stayed active in parish life and with St. Vincent de Paul as a volunteer.

Joe is survived by his sons, Joe (Julia), John (Leslie) and daughter Colleen (Collin), eight grandchildren, Erinn (Will), Sean, Ashely (Jack), Nathan (Maura), Robert (Danielle), Kyle (Liz), Andrew (Taylor) and Mollie (Kelly). He is also survived by four great grandchildren, Reuben, Norah, Clare and Finn.

Carlie Lee Schultz

Carlie Lee Schultz, 91, passed away on April 22, 2026, on his mother Caroline’s heavenly birthday with his loving children, Kevin and Kim, by his side.

Carlie was born on November 18, 1934, in Fargo, North Dakota, to Caroline (Zick) Schultz and Carl Schultz. He married Joann Marie (Johnson) Schultz on June 22, 1958, in Embden, North Dakota, where the two first met as young children. Together, they built a life centered on faith, love, family, and service, sharing 63 years of marriage.

Carlie served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960 and was stationed at Fort Ord and in Fairbanks while Joann completed her dietetics internship in Seattle. In 1960, Carlie began his career with Boeing. He took great pride in his work and achieved an extraordinary 30-year perfect attendance record, never missing a day due to illness.

In 1994, Carlie took early retirement at the age of 59, though he never truly stopped working. He remained constantly busy helping family and friends and looked forward each year to returning to North Dakota to assist on the family farm. He continued this tradition for 20 years, always treasuring time spent with his North Dakota family.

Above all, Carlie loved his family—especially his role as a grandfather to James Thomas, Jaimeson Elizabeth, David Andrew, Eric Lee, and Garret Joseph. He was immensely proud of their accomplishments and rarely missed a sporting event, no matter the cold Pacific Northwest weather. He and Joann also faithfully attended their grandchildren’s music performances throughout the years.

Carlie enjoyed many hobbies, including gardening, boating, fishing, camping, and working on cars. There was little he couldn’t fix or build himself. He approached every project with patience and persistence and generously shared his knowledge with his children and grandchildren.

Carlie and Joann were known for their kindness, reliability, and willingness to help others. They were often the first to arrive when someone needed support. Carlie was deeply devoted to his family and was a loving and dedicated caregiver to Joann until her passing in October 2021.

Carlie is lovingly survived by his son, Kevin (Patty); daughter, Kim (Joe); grandchildren, James Thomas, Jaimeson Elizabeth, David Andrew, Eric Lee, and Garret Joseph; sister-in-law, Eileen; brothers, Stan (Bev), Bob (Deb), and Dan; sister-in-law, Suzon (Roger) Ellenson; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joann; his parents, Carl and Caroline Schultz; his sister-in-law, Bonnie; his brother-in-law, Warren; his nephew, Brady Schultz; and his brother, Lyle.

Carlie is laid to rest with Joann at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline, Washington. Reunited with his beloved Joann, Carlie now rests in God’s eternal care. His steady love, quiet strength, and faithful heart will live on in the family he cherished so deeply.

Whether with a simple “ho hum” or his familiar “a guy could…” as he set out to fix just about anything, Carlie’s gentle humor and can-do spirit will be fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests donations to a charity of your choice in Carlie’s memory.

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”— Psalm 23:6

Barbara Johnson

At the age of 105, Barbara Clara Johnson passed away peacefully in her home in Lake Forest Park, Washington, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, courage and joy. Those who met Barbara will always remember her radiant smile and gracious spirit—qualities that were present even in her final days. She effortlessly made lasting connections and brought much joy to others. Barbara taught us how to live, how to die and to do both with trust in God.

Barbara was born on September 3, 1920, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Paul and Marcella Gehrig who instilled in all six of their children a devotion to God and a love of family. Music also was a focus, as the whole family often gathered in their music room to play instruments and sing. A gifted and life-long musician, Barbara played piano by ear, taught herself many instruments (piano, organ, ukelele, guitar, drums, castanets, etc.) and sang whenever she could, easily harmonizing with those who joined her. From early on, Barb and her brothers enjoyed competing in sports, and it was while she was playing baseball at Minneapolis’ Washburn High that Owen Johnson (her prom date and future husband) knew she was “The One.” Through her life, this enduring love of sports and games carried over into other interests, such as cardplaying, crossword puzzles, and rooting for her beloved Mariners and Seahawks.

During her Minnesota years, Barbara earned her Registered Nursing degree and worked as an industrial nurse in a foundry. Afterward, she pioneered as a flight attendant with Northwest Airlines, at a time when nursing degrees were required and propeller-driven planes were flown. Barbara’s warmth and engaging smile were featured in the airline’s publicity photos, and she was selected as an attendant on Northwest’s first transcontinental flight from Seattle to New York City. When Owen returned from the war and pursued his law degree, he and Barbara reconnected their spark and married in May 1950. After starting a family, they courageously moved to Seattle where they made their home and lovingly raised their five daughters.

Barbara was a devoted wife and mother who had a knack for creating special times and fun family traditions. She always kept the cookie jar full and created a home that was warm and welcoming for all. Barbara also was called to a life of service, and she volunteered countless hours at her church and in her community. Barbara and Owen were among the founding members of Saint Mark Parish in Shoreline. Barbara was a longstanding member of the All-Saints Guild, sang in the church choir, taught catechism classes and participated in Perpetual Adoration for many years. Barbara and Owen also were long-time members of the Sheridan Beach Community Club, volunteered at a charity kitchen and hosted numerous fundraisers and social events.

When Owen passed away in 2001 (after 51 years of joyful marriage), Barbara found joy and friendship in music, first joining the Edmond’s Sound Singers and then the ukelele group. In 2008, these connections brought her to dance hula with the Kupuna group at Shoreline Senior Center, and she continued dancing hula at age 105, inspiring her dear Kupuna sisters as well as those attending the luaus. Barbara gave 100% effort to everything she did and never stopped trying new things. This love of life and learning resulted in Barbara receiving the Sound Generations Lifelong Learning award in 2016.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Owen and daughter Linda Waters. She is survived by: her daughters Janine Johnson, Marla Johnson, Corinne Stratton, and Julie Horgdal; Tom Stratton, Nancy Hovis, Jim Horgdal, Tim Waters; grandchildren Peter (Leah) Arrivey, Nick (Adrienne) Arrivey, Owen (Elizabeth) Stratton, Kate (Anthony) Burns, Michael Green, Matthew (Lindsey) Green, Chris Green and Tommy Stratton; Jacy (Tyler) Konrath and Graham Horgdal (and Jayden); and great-grandchildren Hannah, Samantha, Owen, Cedar, Jasper, Dean, Savannah, Vivienne, Jack and Beau.

A funeral service will be held at Saint Mark Parish in Shoreline, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Saint Vincent de Paul Society at Saint Mark Parish, the Carmelite Monastery of Seattle or Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission.
