As New Jersey experiences more frequent and longer-lasting periods of extreme heat, taking care of one's physical and mental health is more important than ever. Extreme heat can contribute to psychological distress, worsening of existing mental health conditions, and increased risk of substance use and relapse. Adults aged 65+ with behavioral health conditions and chronic medical conditions are at greater risk of heat-related illness.

"Having the awareness and knowing the difference between mental health and mental illness is a collaboration of all humanity while understanding that diversity is our strength." - Will Robinson CADC at Behavioral Crossroads

This month is a time to focus on the unique challenges that Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) face when it comes to mental health.

Over 60 million adults in the U.S. experienced a mental illness in the past year and over 46 million people had a substance use disorder (SUD). Only 37.9% of African American adults and 39.6% of Hispanic adults with mental illness receive treatment each year compared to the U.S. average of 50.6%.

Asian American adults with mental illness are least likely to receive mental health treatment — only 36.1% of Asian adults with a mental illness received treatment in 2022.

At Behavioral Crossroads, we believe that mental health is deeply personal, and what works for one person may not work for another. We provide a therapeutic day treatment program to help individuals with psychiatric illnesses and related problems. We offer door-to-door van transportation to individuals who live in Atlantic County, and the surrounding counties. To learn more call: 856-818-0135 or email: [email protected].

The 2026 World Cup is expected to be the biggest sports betting event in history with global wagers predicted to top $50 billion. But not every bet is harmless fun. For some individuals, gambling can become a serious addiction that impacts finances, relationships, mental health, and overall wellbeing. On top of that, the World Cup will also increase the consumption of beer, wine, and spirits around the world.

While it is a time to celebrate, connect with friends and enjoy the excitement of the game, for individuals in recovery, alcohol-focused gatherings and sports betting can present extreme challenges. If you or someone you love needs support navigating through this time, we’re here to help. Call 856-818-0135 today or email us at [email protected]
