It's true. Even Dr. Mirken, the creator of R.I.C.E said you can stop icing injuries. (And stop full rest)
I don't think ice is as bad as I once thought it was for injuries but I still think it's not necessary for any injury where pain is not improved by it and the freezing of skin has more danger of burns than is worth the benefit.
The worst part of ice is that it takes up valuable movement time!

Minor injuries just need a bit of rest, movement every 15 minutes a few times without increasing pain much.
Return to normal as soon as you can.
Anything more than minor: reach out to a physical therapist and not your primary doctor. And for sure not an orthopedic surgeon. Only see them for emergencies.
