Before every CFHI journey begins, preparation comes first! ✅

Pre-Departure Training is an important part of every participant’s preparation, helping students approach their global health experience safely, ethically, and responsibly.

Through the training, participants learn about:
✓ Health and safety guidelines
✓ Cultural awareness and responsible travel
✓ Clinical safety and ethical approaches to global health immersion
✓ Emergency procedures, resources, and support
✓ Important steps to take before entering their host country

CFHI participants are also encouraged to research their destination, enroll in the U.S. State Department’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program—or a similar program for non-U.S. citizens—and keep essential local, embassy, and emergency contacts readily available.

CFHI’s Assistant Director of Health & Safety, Bethany Petersen, is part of the dedicated team helping participants prepare for their time abroad and understand the resources available to support them throughout their experience.

Explore global health in the heart of Argentina 🇦🇷 🩺 🌎

In Córdoba, CFHI participants learn alongside local healthcare professionals at some of Latin America’s oldest and most renowned teaching hospitals. Through rotations in areas such as surgical care, emergency medicine, cardiology, neurology, dermatology, and more, participants gain insight into Argentina’s efforts to provide accessible healthcare amid economic and social inequalities.

Beyond the clinical setting, participants join case discussions with local residents and medical students, build conversational and medical Spanish skills, and experience daily life in Córdoba through local housing and community connections.

💻 How can global health education shape the physicians of tomorrow?

For Jennifer John, OMS-IV at A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona, CFHI’s Pillars of Global Health course offered a deeper understanding of how social determinants, culture, and health systems influence patient care.

“The course strengthened my commitment to providing compassionate, culturally responsive care and will make me a better physician throughout residency and beyond.”

Scholarships are available for both in-person and virtual programs, opening doors to meaningful learning opportunities with experienced medical and public health professionals worldwide.

🇨🇷 Explore CFHI Global Health Programs in San José, Costa Rica!

In this brief info session, Dr. Jessica Evert, CFHI Global Medical Director, speaks with Jorge Nowalski and Ivannia Morales from the International Center for Development Studies (ICDS) about the latest program offerings in Costa Rica.

Topics covered in this session include undergraduate summer and semester programs focused on health, sustainable development, and social justice. Through community-based experiences, clinical rotations, and customizable courses, students learn by doing while exploring Costa Rica’s universal healthcare system and commitment to sustainability.

The conversation also highlights four-to-eight-week observational clinical rotations for fourth-year medical and physician assistant students. Available specialties may include cardiology, emergency medicine, internal medicine, and radiology.

Participants stay with local host families for deeper cultural and language immersion while experiencing the “Pura Vida” way of life.
