About 30 El Dorado real estate professionals, rental property owners and developers gathered to explore housing solutions for the growing number of medical students, fellows, residents and other health care professionals that will be training in the community.

Brian Jones, DHSc, vice chancellor of UAMS Regional Campuses, and Donya Watson, M.D., program director for UAMS South, moderated the discussion at the El Dorado-Union County Chamber of Commerce. Participants discussed the types and quantity of housing needed, with several expressing interest in new construction.

Our team enjoyed a productive visit this week filled with learning, team building, and exploring more of what El Dorado has to offer. We extend our appreciation to the SAMA Group for dinner, Baptist Health Medical Center El Dorado for the facility tour, HealthWorks Fitness Center and Swole Food for hosting us, the Union County Chamber of Commerce for providing valuable community information and Jan's Realty for a tour of the city. Each year, UAMS medical students and family medicine residents will come to El Dorado for 1-month to 2-year stays, and they'll need housing.

Please welcome Dr. C'Asia James to our residency program as Assistant Professor! She has joined our UAMS Health Family Medical Center where she will offer comprehensive care for all ages with an additional focus on women's health and obstetrics and is accepting new patients.

Welcome, Molly Mefford, M.D.!
Mefford has joined UAMS South as its new surgical obstetrics fellow. She will work with Donya Watson, M.D., program director, and will train in obstetric care beginning this month. Mefford was chief resident at the UAMS West Family Medicine Residency Program where she completed her three-year residency. Her fellowship in surgical obstetrics will include one year of focused training while she also offers comprehensive care to patients at the UAMS Family Medical Center in El Dorado.

It’s official! Our first class of residents has started. They began their residency program on June 17 and Dr. Watson and her team were excited to meet everyone in person this week. We cannot wait to see all they accomplish!
