PCOS has a new name: PMOS — Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.

The renaming to PMOS was announced in May 2026 through a global consensus process published in The Lancet and supported by the Endocrine Society. The purpose is to move away from the misleading focus on “cysts” and better capture the broader endocrine and metabolic nature of the condition.

This updated name better reflects what we now understand: the condition is not simply about ovarian “cysts.” It involves hormonal, metabolic, reproductive, and whole-body health.
