Symphysis P***c Dysfunction + Pregnancy

SPD includes pain or a feeling of instability in the anterior pelvis. This is a common symptom seen during pregnancy and in the postpartum period, contributed to by a number of causes including restriction and misalignment in the pelvis and sacrum, trauma (including car accidents, falls, or a history of stressful labor and delivery), hormonal and physical changes taking place during the perinatal period, and baby’s position in utero.

As a Webster trained chiropractor, this is an area I often assess and adjust in moms to help reduce restriction and restore balance in their sacrum and pelvis, to help them move and function well, and to help them feel their best. 🌟

In addition to in office chiropractic care, home care for SPD promotes stabilization of the adductor muscles and limiting separation of the legs, which may further stress the region.

5 simple things you can start doing tomorrow to drastically improve your health. Not only are these free or low cost, they likely will save you money in the short and/or long term.

🏃🏼‍♀️ Move at least 30 minutes daily
💦 Drink half your body weight in ounces of water
🍽️ Cook/prepare most of your meals at home
🛌 Get at least 7 hours of sleep
☀️ Aim for 1 hour outside daily (if you are feeling ambitious, check out the movement)

More women and birth providers are discovering the many benefits associated with chiropractic care in pregnancy and recognize this area of expertise through Webster Certification.

Dr. Emily is certified in the Webster technique and has a passion in caring for moms in all stages of pregnancy and postpartum. We strive to make expecting moms comfortable as baby grows with special adaptations to our tables and pillows to help cushion baby and mom while mom is being adjusted. We also aim to support and empower moms throughout their pregnancy in helping them know what to expect and discussing ways to further support their pregnancy through nutrition and home exercise.

We have the privilege of caring for many moms in our office in all different stages and seasons of motherhood. You are loving, inspiring, and do so much for many in your lives. One common theme we see is their selflessness, often putting the needs of their family in front of their own self care. Tag a mom who you appreciate in your life, whether it’s your own mom, spouse, friend, daughter, coworker, grandmother, or yourself!
