Della Mae Roberson, a resident of Harrisburg, Illinois, and a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the age of 73 at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in Carbondale, Illinois, surrounded by family.
She was born July 1, 1953, at home in Hardin County, to the late James L. Foster and the late Alda Mae Harris (Foster). She was one of nine children. Della was a hardworking dietitian until she retired in 2013. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren unconditionally. If she wasn’t home with family, she would be playing bingo. She was a kind, loving, and caring person who could light up a room. She will be missed by many. She leaves behind her lifelong companion of 53 years, Dave Smith; two sons, Ronnie (Christy) Roberson and Jason Roberson, both of Harrisburg, Illinois; her only daughter, Devon Roberson of Harrisburg, Illinois; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Pete Foster of Brazil, Indiana, and James Harris of Broughton, Illinois; and a sister, Darlene McQueen of Hurst, Illinois. Della was preceded in death by her two sons, whom she missed greatly, Eric D. Roberson and Casey S. Roberson; her mother, Alda Harris; her father, James Foster; a truly loved stepfather, Poppy Ray Harris; four brothers, Mike, Terry, Danny, and Dave Foster; and one sister, Sue Campbell. Her wish was to be cremated, and arrangements have been entrusted to Colonial Terrace Funeral Home in Eldorado, Illinois. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Garden Cemetery in Harrisburg, Illinois, and a celebration of life will be held at a later time.
