Breathing is automatic.
Breathing well is a skill.

October 2 is O2 Day 💨

We breathe roughly 20,000 times a day- most of the time without ever thinking about it.

But HOW we breathe matters.

👃Nasal breathing helps warm, filter, and humidify the air we breathe in

👅 Tongue, posture and oral function can influence our ability to maintain a closed mouth, nasal breathing pattern

💨 Breathing patterns can affect sleep, oral health, craniofacial development, and overall function.

As a board certified orofacial myologist, I am not just looking at whether someone is breathing.

I am looking at HOW they are breathing.

October 2nd, 02 day is a pretty good reminder that’s something we do all day, every day deserves a little more attention.

This one meant a lot. ❤️

Standing in front of a room of dental hygienists at to present Airway & Myofunctional Screening Across the Lifespan for Dental Hygienists was definitely outside of my comfort zone.

Was I nervous? Absolutely. 😅

But once I started talking about something I care so deeply about, the nerves began to make room for something else — conviction.

I had the opportunity to share the knowledge I’ve gained through years of working in both dental hygiene and orofacial myology, and to show fellow hygienists just how much we are already seeing every day in the dental chair.

Breathing patterns. Tongue posture. Oral function. Sleep and airway concerns. Signs and symptoms that can easily be overlooked unless we know what to look for.

We are in such a unique position to observe, ask questions, document, and refer. We don’t have to diagnose to make a difference.

Being able to bring my two professional worlds together on that stage — dental hygiene and orofacial myology — was incredibly meaningful.

And if even a few hygienists went home looking at their patients a little differently, asking one more question, or recognizing something they might have missed before…then every nervous moment was worth it. ❤️

So grateful to ADHA for the opportunity to share my knowledge and my passion — and to IAOM for allowing me to represent the importance of education and certification in orofacial myology.

What a weekend at in Fort Worth, Texas! 🤠✨

I had such a great time representing the IAOM and sharing my passion for airway health, myofunctional therapy, and the important role dental hygienists can play in recognizing orofacial myofunctional disorders.

Our Special Interest Group discussion was SOLD OUT 🙌 and it was so exciting to see the interest, questions, and conversations surrounding airway and myofunctional therapy. I especially loved having the opportunity to talk about the importance of proper education and certification in orofacial myology — and the response was incredibly encouraging.

And of course, there was plenty of fun mixed in! 🤠 A hat bar, a traveling singer, the Crest + OralB breakfast, and a very special morning with the ADHA President, where she was presented with a beautiful quilt from the Canadian Dental Hygienists Association honoring ADHA and our history. Such a meaningful moment to witness. ❤️

I’m heading home tired, inspired, and even more excited about continuing to bridge the worlds of dental hygiene and screening for airway health, and Myofunctional disorders.

Thank you, ADHA, for an amazing weekend — and thank you IAOM for the opportunity to represent our profession and continue spreading the word about what we do!

Later this week I’ll be Texas bound! ✈️

I’m excited to be presenting to the ADHA Annual Conference this Saturday! All about airway and Myofunctional therapy screening for dental hygienists. This is a topic i’m incredibly passionate about because dental hygienist are in such a unique position to notice the signs that can be easily overlooked. The way our patients breathe rest, their tongue, swallow sleep, and function can tell us so much, and sometimes simply knowing what to look for can change the trajectory of a patient’s care.

I can’t wait to share practical ways hygienist can incorporate airway and my functional screening into the care. We’re already providing every day.

One of the sweetest parts of what I do 💐

A wonderful client finished his myofunctional therapy program with great results- and surprised me with these beautiful flowers at his final visit.

So proud of his hard work, consistency and progress that went to achieving his goals and his parents were pivotal in his success! It’s always a little bittersweet to say goodbye, but THIS is the we work toward 💛

It was great to represent the IAOM and talk to dental hygienists at RDH under one roof all about airway and myofunctional disorders It’s so important to know HOW to screen, WHEN to refer and WHO to refer to. I’m very passionate about the importance of education and honored to have been able to volunteer my time this weekend. Many hygienists were excited to learn more about becoming a myofunctional therapist from educators like and
