Last week, Naomi and Natalie attended a Spinning Babies workshop in Naperville led by Tammy Ryan — one of only six Spinning Babies trainers in the country.

Alongside over 50 labor & delivery nurses and doulas from across Illinois, they spent the day learning hands-on techniques to better support physiological birth and optimal fetal positioning. 🤍

It was incredibly encouraging to see nurses and doulas learning together with the same shared goal: helping moms have safer, more supported birth experiences!

Research continues to show that training in techniques like Spinning Babies is associated with lower cesarean rates and improved birth outcomes — and we’re always grateful for opportunities to continue growing in how we serve our families. ✨

The early postpartum days can feel overwhelming as so many moms wonder, “Is this normal?” and “Will this last forever?”

We asked our doulas to answer some common postpartum questions & share their advice for those sweet (but sometimes difficult) early days.

Swipe for practical tips or some emotional support — whatever you may be needing today 🤍

Your fears are not predictive of how your labor will unfold. Just because you thought it does not mean it will happen. 🤍

“What if my birth doesn’t turn out how I hoped?” Sometimes babies do call the shots, and other things happen outside of our control.

Every birth unfolds differently, and it does not have to go perfectly according to (birth) plan for it to be a beautiful birth experience. ✨

Get educated, do the prep work, rally your support team, and trust God with the outcomes. This is so much easier said than done, but we can know and trust that whatever happens is for our good and God's glory 🌿

A moment to remember forever 🤍

Something we love about birth photography is capturing moments that moms may not even realize are unfolding in real time.

The way your partner looks at you during labor. The first touch. The tears. The moments right after meeting your baby for the very first time.

Preserving memories that can fade so quickly in the sleep deprived haze of postpartum. These images serve as reminders of the strength and love woven throughout your baby’s birth story. ✨

When birth plans change, the right support can make all the difference. 🤍

"We chose the Elgin Doula because of my high risk pregnancy and we are so grateful we did. They helped us find an amazing MFM team. Their education prepared us for baby’s arrival. They guided us to make a birth plan which was great (even though my labor and delivery didn’t go as planned).

The lights and music and mood set by Grace were very nice and calming but what I found most beneficial was her knowledge. When things didn’t go as planned, I loved that I could talk through next steps/decision making with Grace. It was so nice having a fellow nurse to talk things out with that was not part of my medical team. She is really such a kind and compassionate human being.

The lactation support postpartum is a plus! I also didn’t think I would like birth photos but there is one she snapped that is just perfect and I am so glad we have it! I recommend The Elgin Doula and Grace to all of my friends/family interested in a doula!"

When things get intense in labor, each breath matters.

Simple techniques like these can help you stay relaxed, focused, and supported through each contraction (especially in an unmedicated birth).

The best part? You don’t have to remember everything.
That’s what your doula is there for 🤍
