Surprisingly, vacation didn't raise my HRV. 😅
What did? Spending time with my mom. ❤️
When I looked back at my data, I noticed several healthy HRV spikes over 100. The common denominator wasn't sleeping in, sitting by the water, or escaping my inbox. It was connection.
HRV (Heart Rate Variability) is one way we can assess how resilient and adaptable the autonomic nervous system is. And while we often focus on food, exercise, supplements, and sleep, we sometimes forget that relationships are a health input too.
Here's the really interesting part:
A 23-year study of more than 6,000 adults found that the people with the lowest risk of death weren't simply those who received support. They were the people who both gave and received support in roughly equal measure.
In contrast, individuals who received substantially more support than they provided were more likely to die during the study period.
That's a powerful reminder that helping, caring for, and showing up for others may be just as important as receiving support ourselves. ❤️
Sometimes improving your health isn't another supplement or habit stack.
Sometimes it's calling your mom.
Who's someone in your life that leaves you feeling better after spending time together?
