One of the best things we can do as friends, family, or caregivers/care partners of someone living with dementia, is to try and put ourselves in their shoes. Just more evidence to support that getting healthy amounts of sleep is critical to our long term health and brain function! I may not always be perfect in the food I eat or the amount of exercise I get, but this is one preventative health factor I truly enjoy trying to get more of!

It is so important to make everyone aware of these! Dementia doesn't just equal memory loss, it affects so much more!

Unfortunately, these symptoms are easy to brush off or attribute to something else, which can result in delays in diagnosis. If your gut tells you something is off, it probably is. Follow up with your doctor so they can help you get to the bottom of the changes you are noticing.

Our Story with 💗

June Minter spent her final years living with Lewy Body Dementia, a journey marked by quiet courage and the unwavering love of her family. In her last months, she moved into a nursing home in Stevenage, where she was cared for tenderly by her husband of 60 years, Mick, and their devoted daughter, Jules. Their life together had been filled with laughter, adventure, and travels around the world.

Jules knew her mother deserved one last joyful moment—a final hurrah. One of June’s final wishes was simple yet profound: she wanted to take one more flight. For that hour, the world of dementia faded away, and June was herself again—laughing, marvelling, alive.

A few days later June turned to her daughter and said, “I want to go home, and I want you with me.” With the support of Admiral Nurse Lucy, June’s wish became reality. She spent her final days surrounded by love, in a home glowing with Christmas lights, ornaments, and a tree, celebrating the joy of life even in its quietest moments. June died on Valentine’s Day and left behind a heart-broken family.

Tragically, Mick’s own health was failing. Living with vascular dementia and recovering from a stroke in August 2025, he returned to the family home, cared for by the Garden House Hospital at Home Team and Marie Curie. His room was transformed into a tribute to his RAF service, a reflection of a life devoted to others. Mick passed away peacefully on 29th August 2025, leaving behind a family shaped by love, resilience, and memory.

In the wake of such profound loss, Jules created June’s Wish—a charity to honour her mother’s life and spirit. Through the charity, people living with dementia can have one last wish fulfilled, offering them moments of joy, dignity, and connection. June’s Wish ensures that even in the shadow of dementia, life’s brightest moments can still shine.
