Here's some genuinely cool dental science for your feed today!

Researchers at the University of Minnesota discovered that the bacteria living in your mouth are constantly "talking" to each other through chemical signals, and by blocking those signals, they encouraged healthier bacteria while reducing the disease-linked microbes tied to gum disease. Instead of the old approach of wiping out everything, this points toward a more targeted way of managing gum disease while preserving beneficial bacteria. It's early-stage, but it hints at a future where treating gum disease feels a lot less like a chemical war.

Until that future arrives, the fundamentals still win: brush, floss, and keep up with your cleanings!

Scientists have uncovered a surprising way to influence the bacteria living in our mouths — not by killing them, but by interrupting how they “talk” to each other. Researchers found that dental plaque bacteria use chemical signals to coordinate growth, and by blocking those signals, they were ...

250 years of independence, and people STILL think George Washington had wooden teeth. 🇺🇸 (He didn't... try ivory, gold, and even other people's teeth. Yikes!)

In the spirit of the Founding Fathers' questionable dental choices, we're taking some time off:
CLOSED Friday, July 3rd through Monday, July 6th.
Back in action Tuesday, July 7th.

Take care of those pearly whites so you never end up in a history book for the wrong reasons!

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms who still book our dentist appointments even though we're fully grown adults with our own calendars. Thank you for the unsolicited reminders to floss, for magically replacing the empty toothpaste tube before anyone notices it's gone, and for being the original keeper of everyone's medical history. We'd be lost (and probably cavity-ridden) without you!

Mayo Clinic has a podcast episode all about why your mouth is basically the gatekeeper of your entire body...and it's weirdly fascinating!

Turns out your teeth have three layers and they're technically not bone, oral bacteria can potentially travel to your heart, and your smile plays a way bigger role in your mental health and social life than most people realize.
Next time someone asks why dental checkups matter, just send them this episode.

Allergy season is here and your teeth hurt. Must be sinus pressure, right? 🤧

Maybe. But maybe not.

Sinus pressure CAN make your upper teeth ache. It's real, it happens, and it's annoying. But a cracked tooth, a cavity, or an infection can feel exactly the same way. And waiting it out when it's actually a dental issue? That's how small problems turn into root canals.

Here's how to tell: sinus pain usually hits several upper teeth at once and gets better when your allergies do. But if the pain is sharp, focused on one tooth, or sticking around after your Claritin kicks in...that's not your sinuses talking.

Don't play the guessing game with your mouth. Let us figure it out for you! 🦷
