Constipation isn’t always just about fiber. 🚽

If the pelvic floor doesn’t relax and coordinate when it’s time to empty, you may notice straining, incomplete emptying, long bathroom visits, or the feeling that you still need to go.

Pelvic floor therapy looks at the whole picture: breathing, abdominal pressure, toilet positioning, daily habits, muscle tension, and how the pelvic floor lengthens and coordinates.

You deserve practical care without embarrassment or judgment.

At The Healthy Pelvis, visits are private, one-on-one, and delivered in the comfort of your home throughout Chicago’s western suburbs.

Do you use the bathroom “just in case” before leaving home—even when the urge is small? 🚻

That habit can teach the bladder to signal sooner and sooner. Urgency and frequent bathroom trips can also be influenced by pelvic floor coordination, breathing, bowel function, the nervous system, fluid habits, and learned cues like arriving home or hearing running water.

Pelvic floor therapy can help you understand your patterns and practice strategies such as bladder retraining, urge suppression, breathing, and better muscle coordination.

The goal isn’t to ignore your body. It’s to help your bladder feel more predictable so you can spend less time planning life around a restroom. 💚

The Healthy Pelvis provides private, one-on-one pelvic floor physical therapy in your home throughout Chicago’s western suburbs.

Leaking when you cough, sneeze, laugh, run, or exercise? 💧

It’s common, but it doesn’t have to be something you simply “live with.”

Urinary leakage can happen during pregnancy, after having a baby, during menopause, or even years later. And pelvic floor therapy is about much more than just doing Kegels.

We look at how your pelvic floor is working with your breathing, core, hips, abdominal muscles, pressure management, and everyday movement to figure out what’s actually contributing to the problem.

The goal? Helping you feel strong, confident, and comfortable in your body again. 💙

At The Healthy Pelvis, we provide one-on-one pelvic floor physical therapy in the comfort and privacy of your own home throughout Chicago’s western suburbs.

A first pelvic floor PT visit should not feel mysterious.

It begins with conversation: what is happening, what matters to you, and what you feel comfortable discussing. Melissa explains each option before any assessment. You can ask questions, pause, or decline any part. Then you build a plan together.

Consent is ongoing—not a checkbox at the beginning.

October is National Physical Therapy Month. Let’s widen the picture of pelvic floor PT.

It may help people navigating bladder or bowel symptoms, pelvic pain, pregnancy and postpartum recovery, painful intimacy, tailbone pain, abdominal or pelvic surgery recovery, prostate surgery, pressure or heaviness, and difficulty returning to exercise.

The common thread is not a diagnosis. It is individualized movement and function.

A new chapter. 💚

Today marks the end of 10 meaningful years at Endeavor Health. I’m grateful for the colleagues I’ve learned from and the patients who trusted me with their care.

Now I’m turning my full attention to The Healthy Pelvis. This practice has grown so much, and I’m excited to give it my full heart and energy.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

If every run begins with “Where is the nearest bathroom?” or ends with wet clothing, the answer is not always to stop running.

Running increases impact and pressure demands. Pelvic floor strength may matter—but so can breathing, timing, hip and trunk capacity, training load, and muscle tension.

Our running-and-leakage guide explains why the solution should be individualized:

Leakage after birth is common. That does not mean someone should be told to simply accept it.

Pregnancy and delivery can change pressure management, strength, coordination, tissue mobility, breathing, and confidence in movement. Recovery looks different for every person—and it deserves more than a one-size-fits-all checklist.

Read our guide to postpartum leakage and pelvic floor physical therapy:

“I listen before I treat.”

That sentence is short, but it shapes every visit.

Symptoms tell part of the story. Daily life, fears, goals, past experiences, pregnancy or surgery history, movement, sleep, stress, and what a person feels ready for tell the rest.

Personalized care begins when the clinician makes room for the whole story.

More Kegels are not always the answer.

Some pelvic floors need strength. Others need relaxation, better timing, or coordination with breathing and movement.

Good pelvic-floor care begins with assessment—not assumptions.

Melissa explains why:
https://thehealthypelvis.com/blog/kegels-arent-for-everyone/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=organic_social&utm_campaign=local_education&utm_content=20260921_more_kegels

Save this reminder, and share it with someone who has been told to “just do more Kegels.”
