Linda Lee (Darrow) Leonard age 82, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 following declining health. Born on May 6, 1944 in Canton, PA Linda was the daughter of the late Robert Boyd and Mary Foster Darrow. Linda was a loving and supportive wife to Joseph Leonard for almost 50 years before his passing in 2013. Always active in her community was a life member (50 year+) of the South Creek Volunteer Fire Department, a charter/founding member of the South Creek Ambulance Association and was the South Creek Township secretary for many years. She loved her dogs, sewed up a storm, was an avid reader, and was the keeper of all paperwork both at home, at the fire department and for many years for Township. Linda is survived by her loving but head-strong and feisty daughter who gave her white hair but who she loved fiercely and supported always unequivocally, Muffy (if you are from PA) and Mary Ann (if you live in NY) Munroe, along with Muffy’s amazing husband who Linda thought of as a son and was definitely her favorite, Mike Munroe. Along with Mike and Mary Ann, Linda leaves behind her beloved grandsons Ethan and Adam Sheets who she helped raise into wonderful young men, the son of her heart Ray Bixby and his wife Bonnie, her faithful canine companion Lizzie, grandchildren Michael John (Barbara) Munroe and Marisah (Michael) Goyette and six great-grandchildren – Raylyn, Isaiah, Asher, and Jace (Sheets) and Anna Rose and Joseph Michael (Munroe). Linda’s family also consisted of the Mickley, Shedden, Hodder, Gurnsey and Houston families along with all of you in her small community of South Creek. Linda lived a life of service and giving. She was the person that sewed on your buttons or the sequins on your wedding dress, ironed your shirt for an event, knew the answers to obscure questions, sent cards for every occasion, and told you that you could even when you thought you couldn’t. She rolled hose, ran ambulance calls, answered the township phone at 8:00 pm and always could make food appear. She always had a dog with her and was always happy to chat about life in South Creek with all of you. To honor Linda’s legacy, you are welcome to send a monetary donation to the organizations below which were her charities of choice, or better yet do something for someone else or your community. Walk a dog for the SPCA, work BINGO on Friday night at the fire department, sew on a button or iron a shirt for someone, read a book to a kiddo, or send a note or card (handwritten) to brighten someone’s day. That’s what she would have wanted. If you would like to pay your respects to her family, a celebration of Linda’s life will be held at the South Creek Fire Department (6428 Roaring Run Road, Gillett PA 16925) on Sunday July 19, 2026. 12:00-1:00 will be a time to visit her family and a firefighters’ service will follow at 1:00. And in true South Creek style there will be food and firetrucks. In lieu of flowers Linda’s charities of choice are: South Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 6428 Roaring Run Road, Gillett PA 16925; Fassett Baptist Church, 36089 Rt 14, Gillett PA 16925; Chemung County SPCA, 2435 St Route 352, Elmira, NY 14903 or DonorPerfect Forms.
