Understanding inherited retinal diseases is an important step toward advancing new treatments.

Inherited retinal diseases (IRDs), are a group of rare genetic eye conditions. Some IRDs may cause the gradual breakdown of photoreceptors - the cells in the retina responsible for detecting light. Over time, this leads to progressive vision loss.

At Kiora Pharmaceuticals, we're focused on advancing therapies designed to target the underlying biology of retinal disease and expand possibilities for vision restoration.

A meaningful achievement for Kiora Pharmaceuticals and Chong Kun Dang Pharmaceutical Corporation (CKD).

Thank you to CKD for their hospitality at the recent signing ceremony marking Kiora's licensing agreement with CKD for the South Korean development and commercialization rights to KIO-301 in ophthalmic indications.

KIO-301 is a molecular photoswitch designed to restore light sensitivity to degenerated retina in patients with inherited retinal diseases. With this agreement, Kiora now has established global partners in place for KIO-301, with an initial focus on retinitis pigmentosa.

KIO-301 is an investigational small-molecule therapy in development for inherited retinal diseases. A molecular photoswitch, it aims to restore visual function by enabling healthy retinal cells to detect light, even when photoreceptors are no longer functional.

At Kiora Pharmaceuticals, we are advancing research focused on vision restoration by developing therapies designed to address the underlying biology of retinal disease.

Discover how our research is approaching vision restoration at https://kiorapharma.com/pipeline-science/kio-301/.

Kiora Pharmaceuticals has entered into a licensing agreement with Chong Kun Dang Pharmaceutical Corporation (CKD), a leading pharmaceutical company in South Korea.

CKD will lead Phase 3 clinical development and commercialization efforts of KIO-301 in South Korea, further strengthening our global partner network spanning the U.S., Europe, Japan and China.

KIO-301 is Kiora’s molecular photoswitch designed to restore functional vision after photoreceptors have degenerated. Because it works independently of the underlying genetic mutation, KIO-301 has the potential to address multiple inherited retinal diseases, including retinitis pigmentosa, choroideremia and Stargardt disease.

The most precise therapies target disease at its source. KIO-104 is designed to target DHODH, a mitochondrial enzyme that inflammatory T-cells depend on to survive and multiply. By inhibiting this critical enzyme, KIO-104 cuts off the essential building blocks these reactive T-cells need, stopping them from multiplying and causing further damage to the eye.

This targeted approach represents a new pathway in treating retinal inflammatory diseases, addressing the root cause of inflammation rather than just managing symptoms. At Kiora Pharmaceuticals, we're focused on developing therapies that work at the cellular level to protect and preserve vision.

The most meaningful moments of restored vision are often the smallest ones.

One patient from the ABACUS-1 trial described how they noticed two tiny lights on a bedside device—lights they had looked toward countless times but never truly seen. "I saw them last night, and I went ‘ wow’," they explain, recalling the pinpoint glow that suddenly came into focus. For someone who had lost that ability, even small points of light carry profound significance.

These aren't just clinical outcomes—they're real moments of reconnection. They are a reminder of why vision restoration research matters. At Kiora Pharmaceuticals, we're working to transform these unexpected breakthroughs into expected realities, developing advanced therapies that aim to restore visual function where it has been lost.

Vision restoration requires more than treating disease, it demands innovation that reaches tissue thought to be beyond recovery.

KIO-301 is designed to enter surviving cells in retinal tissue, enabling them to send signals to the brain when activated by light. The goal is to restore visual function in areas where photoreceptors have been lost, offering new hope for patients with inherited retinal diseases.

By targeting cells that remain viable, KIO-301 represents a fundamentally different approach to vision restoration, one that aims to reactivate pathways rather than simply slow decline. It's a bold step forward in how we think about treating vision loss.

Innovation in retinal disease starts at the cellular level. In this moment from the Foundation Fighting Blindness “Eye on the Cure” podcast, Brian M. Strem, PhD, President & Chief Executive Officer of Kiora Pharmaceuticals, explains how targeted small molecules are designed to work within the retina, reaching cells that have lost connection to photoreceptors and may still hold the potential to respond.

By focusing on these critical pathways, Kiora’s approach explores new ways to restore visual function where it’s been lost. It’s a powerful example of how science is advancing toward more precise, meaningful solutions in eye health.
