One thing I’ve noticed when working with individuals living with Parkinson’s is that the nervous system often tends to stay in a more sympathetic state — the body’s stress or “fight-flight” response.
This can be influenced by several factors including reduced movement, stress, disrupted sleep, digestive challenges, and the changes in dopamine levels that affect the body’s chemistry.
When the nervous system stays in this heightened state for too long, it can make the body feel more tense, uncomfortable, and fatigued.
Meditation and breathwork can help individuals self-regulate the nervous system and gently guide the body back toward a calmer, more balanced state.
These practices may help support:
• emotional steadiness
• clearer thinking
• improved sleep
• better digestion
• a greater sense of calm in the body
I’m partnering with the Parkinson’s Foundation and this is the last in a four part series. Class is held in my office and designed to support individuals living with Parkinson’s and their loved ones.
