Episode Title: Understanding Naturopathy: A Root-Cause Approach to Health with Dr. Patty Barber, ND

Episode Description:
What if getting healthy meant addressing the root cause of your symptoms — not just managing them? In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Patricia "Patty" Barber, ND, a Doctor of Naturopathy and founder of The Quantum Natural Path in Vestal, New York, to explore the world of naturopathic medicine.

Dr. Barber has spent years helping clients across the country get to the bottom of chronic issues like digestive disorders, hormone imbalances, chronic pain, and fatigue — using a whole-person approach that looks at the mechanical, nutritional, chemical, and emotional stressors on the body. A Certified Functional Medicine Clinician and Advanced Digestive Health Professional, she works alongside conventional medical care to help her clients participate more actively in their own healing.

In this conversation, we cover:
• What naturopathy actually is — and how it differs from conventional medicine
• Why people seek out naturopathic care, even alongside a trusted medical doctor
• What to expect from a naturopathic health evaluation
• Common concerns naturopathy can help with, from digestion to hormones to chronic pain
• How to find a properly trained and credentialed naturopathic practitioner
• Myths and misconceptions worth clearing up

Whether you're naturopathy-curious or just looking for a more complete picture of your health, this episode offers a grounded, informative look at what it means to work with your body instead of against it.

It's so important to maintain good gut health.

A Harvard School of Public Health study has found that the gut microbiome remains significantly altered more than a decade after the removal of colon adenomas — benign polyps typically removed during colonoscopies to prevent colorectal cancer. Colorectal cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, and polyp removal is the standard preventive intervention. But patients who have had adenomas removed still face elevated cancer risk — and this study may explain why. Researchers compared the stool metagenomes of 354 women who had adenomas removed roughly 12 years earlier with 354 matched controls who had never had adenomas. They found significant differences in 31 microbial species, and the microbiomes of the polyp-removal group partially resembled those associated with active colorectal cancer cases. "Removing an adenoma doesn't return the gut to a low-risk state, and the gut microbiome may therefore be a significant biological contributor to sustained CRC risk," said corresponding author Mingyang Song. The findings suggest cancer-associated gut conditions persist even after the polyp itself is removed — meaning the procedure may be treating a symptom rather than the root cause. Diet and lifestyle were closely tied to the microbial differences observed, suggesting they could be modifiable targets for people at elevated risk. The research is published in Cell Host & Microbe.

More than a decade after removal of an adenoma—a precancerous mass—from the colon, alterations to the gut microbiome and metabolites remain and may drive heightened risk of colorectal cancer, according to a new Harvard Chan School study.

Please stay inside the next few days due to the air quality from the wildfire smoke coming from Canada.
People with breathing issues are at the greatest risk.
If you need help with detoxing from the smoke, contact our office to assist you on your health journey.

⚠️Air Quality Alert issued July 14 at 2:52PM EDT by NWS Binghamton NY⚠️

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation at Albany has issued a Air Quality Health Advisory for Fine Particulates from midnight tonight to midnight EDT Wednesday night.

Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100 for Fine Particulates. The air quality index...or AQI...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated...the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young and those with pre-existing respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician.

For additional information, please visit the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation website at, https://on.ny.gov/nyaqi, or call the Air Quality Hotline at 800-535-1345.

I was just speaking with a client today who was concerned with the increase of Lone Star ticks on the East Coast.
Here is some great information to help with both prevention and support with Alpha-Gal and tick bites.
I have worked with a number of clients across the US with Alpha-Gal Syndrome to assist them in their health journey.

One of the most unusual and rapidly emerging immune-mediated conditions of our time, Alpha-Gal Syndrome is a tick-borne allergy that can trigger reactions to red meat and other mammalian products.

Now that it's golf season, I want to make people aware that the herbicide, Aztrazine can affect sec hormones.
See the study showing that Aztrazine, an herbicide, which is often sprayedn on golf courses feminizes male frogs in the wild.
Imagine what it does to the people who spend their time there as well?

Herbicides: feminization of male frogs in the wild
