Day Retreat Institute of Dr. Wang

Day Retreat Institute of Dr. Wang Holistic Behavioral Health Dr. Wang has been practicing medicine for about 23 years in America. She has treated more women than men, not surprisingly.

She has brought many patients suffering mental illness to full remission. She is a strong advocate for people suffering from mental illnesses. Dr. Wang has volunteered her time in the community to help destigmatize depressive disorders, dementia and delirium. She has also involved herself in student education, on topics such as schizophrenia, sibling relationships, and dream related issues. Even t

hough her psychiatric text book depicts that 2/3 of depressive patients are women, there are no woman-specific treatments available as the current treatment guidelines. Dr. Wang suffered many psychosomatic disorders since childhood. She has benefited tremendously through a self-healing process that she has taught her patients. She practices Yoga, goes to Yoga retreats minimally once a year, she believes in acupuncture and many good advice coming from Indian ayurvedic nutritional theories. She practices Zen meditation, she believes in the power of prayer and she sings in her Church choir. She has strong faith in Christianity. As many physicians experience burn-out in the current brutal managed care era, to practice conventional medicine has not enabled Dr. Wang to do her best. That is to motivate people and pass on her own healing experiences to others, and to unleash the innate self-growth power within. Let’s follow our mother Hildegard, the medieval nun from Germany, the Doctor of the Church, to treat our body as a living creature not a machine when under stress. Let’s summon our body’s own Dr. Quiet, Dr. Nutrient and Dr. Merryman, of which Dr.Wang’s interpretation is that we need to find our passions and God-given-talents to live and to live well.

About Hildegard von Bingen

On 7 October 2012, Pope Benedict XVI named Hildegard von Bingen the Doctor of the Church.

St. Hildegard was born in 1098 from a noble family. At age 8 years old, her family sent her to study in her cousin’s monastery. She did her formal education in a very well-known monastery among the monks. She eventually took over the women’s section of her cousin’s monastery. At 40 years old, she published her religious book. At medieval time, writing a Catholic Religious book could result serious persecution including death sentence. She also started to petition her own monastery. Hildegard pleaded with the abbot and the pope. Despite receiving great objections and having suffered from a major illness, the moment she recovered she went on to build her own monastery. In her life time, she cared and cured for the sick and dying with tremendous detailed documentation. St. Hildegard administered her healing with Dr. Quiet, Dr.Nutrient and Dr.Marryman* She believed that patients resembled a plant rather than a machine. In her treatment process she emphasized the importance of promoting the innate healing power. She also persuaded her patients and nuns that effective healing took time.
