Colorado Spine Partners (formerly Denver Spine Surgeons) is a group of 3 orthopedic spine surgeons: Dr. David Wong, Dr. Sanjay Jatana, and Dr. Gary Ghiselli. Our philosophy emphasizes exhausting non-surgical treatment options before considering spine surgery. When surgery is necessary, we utilize the latest technological advances in minimally invasive spine surgery and regenerative technologies to accelerate functional rehabilitation and minimize hospital stay.

Dr. Wong just returned from Cape Town, South Africa, for the 52nd Annual ISSLS (International Society for the Study of the Lumbar Spine) meeting. Dr. Wong is a member of ISSLS, an international spine society limited to just 300 members worldwide. Dr. Wong found a debate on the pros and cons of AI in medicine especially interesting. Two key takeaways were: AI tools tend to give “average” answers based on the most common information available, which can overlook unique or unusual individual cases. At best, AI suggests a likely answer, not the correct answer.

Dr. Wong just returned from Aberdeen, Scotland, from the British Association of Spine Surgeons meeting. Interesting papers included:
• GLP-1 medications and surgical complications — no increased complications were found
• AI in medical publishing — ChatGPT generated the highest number of fabricated studies compared with Meta, Copilot, and Gemini, reinforcing that AI still requires careful oversight

Dr. Wong Reroutes to Scotland After Dubai Spine Meeting Cancellation -- the 13th World Congress on Spine and Spinal Disorders in Dubai, UAE, was canceled due to recent events, and United Airlines — Dr. Wong’s airline of choice and one with which he has logged more than 3 million miles — has confirmed that flights to Dubai will be impacted through June 15.

Dr. Wong has adjusted his travel plans and will instead attend the British Association of Spine Surgeons meeting in Aberdeen, Scotland, next month. Safe Travels, Dr. Wong!
