Embodied Anatomy: A Somatic Approach to Yoga Anatomy | August 22-23, 2026
This weekend immersion with Devon Sweeney invites yoga teachers into an experiential study of the body through movement, palpation, self-touch, discussion, and integrated practice. Rather than approaching anatomy as information to memorize, we’ll explore it as something to feel, investigate, and directly experience.
Together we’ll study the architecture of the musculoskeletal system while weaving in principles of biomechanics, fascia, breath, energetic anatomy, and functional movement. The result is an approach to anatomy that is practical, intuitive, and immediately applicable to both personal practice and skillful teaching.
Devon’s background bridges yoga education and therapeutic bodywork, and this immersion is designed to help teachers refine their eye, deepen their understanding of movement, and cultivate greater confidence in cueing, sequencing, modifications, and hands-on teaching.
Over the weekend we’ll explore:
• Embodied palpation and anatomical landmarks
• Applied anatomy for asana and intelligent sequencing
• Joint mechanics and principles of stability
• Fascia and whole-body movement patterns
• The anatomy of breath, the diaphragm, pelvic floor, and deep core
• The relationship between structure, bandhas, vayus, and the subtle body
• Touch as a tool for proprioception and embodied learning
• Integrating anatomical knowledge with intuition and responsive teaching
