If you visited his home, chances are you weren’t leaving without something to eat. Whether cooking for family gatherings, feeding friends, welcoming guests, or hosting his men’s group, Woody found genuine joy in sharing a meal with others. To him, food was more than nourishment, it was an expression of love, friendship, and hospitality.

Woody also loved to dance, treasured time spent with family and friends, and was deeply devoted to his church family. He greeted life with a smile, worked hard, laughed often, and lived with a servant’s heart. His kindness, generosity, and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of thirteen years, Janice Panetta of Enterprise; his son, Joseph Merritt (Michelle) of Washington; his brother, Armando Panetta of New Jersey; and his beloved grandchildren, Morgan Merritt and Harley Merritt. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Boys Town at 19 Fenwick Street, Newark, NJ 07114.

Woody measured a rich life not by what he accumulated, but by the people gathered around his table. His door was always open, his smile was always welcoming, and there was always room for one more. His legacy of generosity, friendship, unwavering faith, and heartfelt hospitality will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation for the many prayers, acts of kindness, and expressions of sympathy shown during this difficult time.
