Welcome to our new student, Aleshka!
"My name is Aleshka. I am a student at Bastyr University, currently beginning my second year. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and moved to Washington state nine years ago with my daughter, Mila, who is now exactly nine years old. In 2025, we welcomed another family member, Naiah, who is currently 16 months old. I completed a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (RN) in Puerto Rico in 2017. Spanish is my first language, and I enjoy attending church with my family. I am also a certified full-spectrum doula and a ProviderOne provider; I run a small business offering these services to all families, including low-income ones. I am very excited to be joining the Foothills family alongside midwives Terah and Brooke.
What drew me to midwifery were my own childbirth experiences, during which my autonomy was not respected. I believe we are capable of making our own decisions based on what our bodies and hearts desire. YOU KNOW YOURSELF BETTER THAN ANYONE! My professional goal after graduating as a midwife is to transform access to maternal healthcare in vulnerable rural communities through an itinerant, culturally safe care model delivered via a mobile birth center and clinic. My approach integrates evidence-based midwifery, natural medicine, and respect for cultural diversity by promoting bodily autonomy, health education, and access to dignified, humanized, and safe childbirth."
