WEEKLY FEATURE
The terms "Adrenal Fatigue" and "Adrenal Dysfunction" are often used interchangeably, but these two conditions are very different in terms of meaning. Adrenal Fatigue describes a collection of symptoms resulting from chronic stress. These symptoms may include:
Persistent fatigue
Brain fog
Difficulty waking up in the morning
Afternoon energy crashes
Sugar and salt cravings
Low motivation
Feeling overwhelmed by stress
Prolonged stress wears out the adrenal glands, reducing their ability to produce cortisol and chronic stress causes the adrenal glands to become unable to produce adequate cortisol in otherwise healthy people.
“Adrenal Dysfunction” refers to disorders in which the adrenal glands produce too much or too little hormone. Examples include:
Addison’s disease
Cushing syndrome
Congenital adrenal disorders and adrenal tumors
Pituitary disorders
