Meet Helen. 🐻❤️
This baby bear came to us from the Santa Fe area after a concerned homeowner noticed she was alone. After several periods of observation with no sign of her mother, they contacted New Mexico Game and Fish for help and lovingly gave her the name Helen.
As you can see, Helen is very underweight, but she’s now safely in our care. Our team will work hard to help her regain the weight and strength she needs.
Helen is a cub from this year’s litter, which means she didn’t have enough time with her mom to learn the skills she needs to survive on her own. Over the coming months, we’ll give her the opportunity to develop those natural behaviors so she’ll be ready for a successful return to the wild when the time comes.
For now, Helen is staying in our ICU enclosure while she recovers. Once she’s healthy and up to weight, she’ll move to a larger enclosure where she’ll even be able to see Hishii.
A huge thank you to the caring homeowner who made the call, and to New Mexico Game and Fish for safely bringing Helen to us. Because people cared and acted, this little cub has a second chance. 💚
