It's September, and that means it's Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month! 🎗️

Meet Mike, one of our NeuroCare clients. He's sitting at his kitchen table, talking straight to camera about what a spinal cord injury really is, because awareness starts with understanding.

Every year, thousands of people sustain a spinal cord injury, often from auto accidents. Life changes in an instant. But it doesn't define the person. Our clients are active, independent adults living life on their own terms, with the right support in place.

That's what NeuroCare is all about: 24/7 one-on-one care that helps people with SCI stay in their own homes, stay independent, and keep doing what matters to them.

I am always working hard to make sure that my clients feel safe and happy when I'm around. I don't just do the typical duties; I take the time to get to know them. My clients always appreciate how hard of a worker I am, how much I care, and how compassionate I am.

I absolutely love helping people; I've always been a caretaker. I especially love working in home health because you actually get to get to know your clients, rather than working in a nursing home and only being able to talk to your clients for 5-10 minutes at a time. ❤️

The Miracle Field is a universally accessible soft-surface baseball diamond for youth and adults with physical and cognitive disabilities. In a Miracle League game, every player hits, runs, and scores every time with the cheers and support of their own volunteer buddy. Games are played at the Midland Miracle Field, 225 E. Collins St. in Midland.

We gave the NeuroCare staff a microphone and asked them to do their best impression of Nick.

This was a mistake.

Apparently Nick has a reputation for interrupting people, struggling with his headset, and — our personal favorite — expecting someone to open his pop for him.

To his credit, Nick sat right there and took every single one.

And then told us how proud he is of the team anyway.

There’s a version of this job that’s just a paycheck.

And then there are the caregivers who stay late because their client has a rough day. Who notice something’s off before the client says anything. Who show up to a night shift at 11 pm on a Tuesday and do it with a good attitude.

That’s who works at NeuroCare.

We work with people who have complex, high-level spinal cord injuries. The care is technical. The hours aren’t always easy. But the caregivers who stick around — they’re here because they genuinely care about the person they’re showing up for.
