For thousands of years, we have birthed at home. Surrounded by the love and care of our mothers, our grandmothers, our sisters (both blood and soul), additional trusted family members and neighbors. We were nourished and encouraged in the safety of our homes using coping techniques such as massage, dance, breathwork, song, and many more beautiful rituals to help nourish our process. We trusted in the instincts of those who birthed before us….and that’s all we needed because our bodies have always been made for this process. It wasn’t until we developed the conscious mind that we developed fear surrounding birth. As a whole, we were born into familiar places with familiar faces!
When doulas are able to work with midwives and doctors, the providers are able to focus on the medical side while your doula can offer you non-stop support and encouragement to get you through your delivery. When we have continuous support throughout pregnancy, we experience less need for invasive procedures and shorter labors while feeling supported in a safe environment.
This fascinating divine depiction of birth is so sacred and part of the reason I decided to explore the life of a doula. I wish to support families in this most sacred act, teaching lost wisdom passed from women all over the world. When we share our process and our story, we’re able to relate, connect and encourage the next generation to trust in their power
So what can I doulaboutit? Or better asked, how can I best support you and your family?
Through emotional, physical, informational and spiritual support
