Did you know that Oregon Health & Science University has recognized that your wellness and personal care practitioners, including massage therapists, nail technicians, estheticians, barbers, and hairstylists, can be one of your most powerful allies in identifying health changes?
OHSU, in collaboration with IMPACT Melanoma, has found that these providers often see your body and skin on a much more regular (and thorough) basis than just about anyone else, and can be helpful in encouraging you to see your doctor when something on your skin looks out of the ordinary.
While nothing is a replacement for a visit to the doctor or dermatologist, part of our role as a provider in caring for you is making prudent recommendations for higher-level care when it seems like something is off.
That’s not a role we take lightly. It’s one more reason regular sessions matter: the more familiar we are with your skin, body, and nails, the more likely we are to notice if something changes.
