Postpartum isn’t meant to be done alone. At Avocado Doulas, we believe postpartum care should be soft, supported, informed, and never isolating. You and your family deserve care, too. 💚🥑

The early weeks after bringing home a baby can feel beautiful, overwhelming, exhausting, emotional, and deeply transformative all at once. New parents are often expected to “figure it out” while recovering physically, navigating sleep deprivation, feeding around the clock, and adjusting to an entirely new rhythm of life.

This is why postpartum support matters. New parents need:

1. Nourishment that’s easy to grab between feeds.
2. A stocked postpartum cart within reach.
3. Someone to remind you to drink water, rest, and breathe.
4. Hands to help with baby while you shower or nap.
5. Encouragement during the hard moments and reassurance during the uncertain ones.
6. Someone to share local resources with you in a compassionate way if extra support is needed.

These small systems and acts of care can make a huge difference in how supported and grounded a family feels during postpartum. 🥑✨

May is Preeclampsia Awareness Month 💛

Preeclampsia can become life-threatening quickly, and too many mothers are told their symptoms are “normal” or dismissed. One of our clients experienced severe preeclampsia after it was caught at a routine 33-week appointment, leading to multiple hospital visits, steroid shots for baby’s lung development, and an induction at 36+4 due to severe preeclampsia and IUGR.

Awareness matters. Advocacy matters. Early intervention saves lives.

During scary and unpredictable experiences like this, a doula can help you roll with the punches, stay grounded, feel informed, and supported every step of the way. 🥑

Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Avocado Doulas. 💚

This sweet photo of Doula Rachel was taken with her second baby at the Oregon Country Fair, less than one month postpartum.

Meanwhile, our amazing team of doulas has been hard at work supporting multiple births this weekend. How special for these families to welcome Mother’s Day babies into the world!

Today is also a reminder for mothers to let others take care of them, too. Pause, reflect, rest, and remember that every journey into motherhood looks different, and that’s okay!

We’re holding space for all the beautiful versions of motherhood today and every day. 🥑

Today is the last day of April, which means it’s still Cesarean Birth Awareness Month! 🤍

Did you know? To reach your baby, there are typically 7 layers of tissue that are moved through, separated, or incised, including the skin, fat, connective tissue, and uterus.

Let that sink in for a moment. A cesarean birth is a major abdominal surgery and is one that requires strength, skill, and deep care. While every birth story looks different, every cesarean deserves to be understood, respected, and supported.

If you’re planning a cesarean, you deserve to feel informed and prepared, not rushed or disconnected from the experience. If your birth takes an unexpected turn, you deserve steady, compassionate support to help you navigate the shift.

That’s where a doula comes in. 🤍

We’re there to help you feel grounded before surgery, supported during the experience, and cared for as you recover...physically and emotionally.

From holding space, to helping you advocate for your preferences, to supporting those first moments with your baby, you are not alone in this.

Let’s celebrate Cesarean Awareness Month! 🤍

Not every birth goes according to plan, and that doesn’t make it any less powerful.

“Rachel was an integral piece of my birth team, which consisted of myself and my husband. The support she provided me AND my partner before, during and after birth was invaluable. During the birth, she was an incredible advocate for us when my birth experience didn’t go as I’d hoped. When the OB suggested a medically necessary c-section, Rachel created the space to allow me to grieve the change to my birth plan and empowered me to fully be in charge of what happened to my body. Her grounded nature allowed me to feel relatively calm in what could have been an anxiety-ridden, panic attack inducing experience. She also takes beautiful photos!! I highly recommend Rachel!”

This is what support can look like. Holding space for the unexpected. Honoring the emotional shifts. Helping you stay informed, grounded, and in control, no matter how your baby arrives.

April 2026 marks International Cesarean Awareness Month (ICAM) 🤍

A cesarean birth is not “the easy way out”. It is a major abdominal surgery. It is a profound, complex birth that deserves recognition and respect.

Whether your cesarean is planned, unexpected, or medically necessary, your experience matters.

At Avocado Doulas, we’re here to support you through every kind of birth:

• Preparing for a scheduled cesarean so you feel informed and confident
• Offering grounding, continuous support if plans change unexpectedly
• Helping communicate your preferences with your care team when possible
• Supporting your partner so they can better support you
• Holding space for bonding, processing, and emotional care after birth
• Assisting with recovery and postpartum healing

No matter how it unfolded, it’s still your birth. Your strength is still yours. And you deserve to feel supported every step of the way.
