Featuring PT’s Sam + Matt, we’re highlighting Return to Sport (RTS) Functional Testing, a comprehensive assessment designed to evaluate an athlete’s readiness to safely return to sport.
We perform both our Tensegrity standard RTS Test, designed in collaboration with industry leaders, and other specific protocols provided by external providers.
While typically performed after a lower body injury, upper body injuries may also be assessed with testing modifications. Testing occurs at various stages during injury rehabilitation once basic strength and mobility are restored.
Both surgical and non-surgical conditions can utilize RTS testing to identify training needs.
Why RTS Testing Matters
🔸Reduces risk of re-injury
🔸Guides safe progression back to practice and competition
🔸Provides objective data for athletes, coaches, physicians, and trainers, etc.
🔸Helps restore athlete confidence and readiness
What RTS Testing Evaluates
🔸Strength: Comparing injured vs. uninjured side
🔸Range of Motion: Full, pain-free sport specific movement(s) required for sport
🔸Power & Explosiveness: Ability to generate force quickly (e.g. vertical jump, hop distance, etc)
🔸Balance & Stability: Single-leg balance + control during landing and cutting movements
🔸Agility & Change of Direction: Sport-specific movements (e.g. shuttle runs, cutting drills, ladder drills, etc.)
🔸Movement Quality: How well movements are performed
