También puede empeorar el pronóstico de los adultos mayores que ya padecen estas afecciones.

This can make it more likely to get chronic diseases like dementia, diabetes, cancer and heart disease. It can also worsen outcomes for older adults already living with those conditions.

There’s also the risk of mixing alcohol with medications. Alcohol can interfere with how medicines work or cause harmful side effects.

No matter what age you are, drinking less, or not at all, is always better for your health.

Pueden manifestarse cuando tu amigo te pide que te quedes para tomar "solo una más"; cuando tu pareja te sirve una copa sin preguntarte primero; o cuando se burlan de ti por no beber cierta cantidad durante una salida en la noche.

Resulta útil planificar con tiempo y establecer un límite. Sin embargo, cuando se trata de la presión social, a veces basta con alzar la voz con firmeza y decir "no" a una bebida para hacer la diferencia. The pressures to drink alcohol might not always be obvious, but that doesn’t mean they’re not there. It can look like a friend asking you to stay for "just one more." A partner pouring you a glass without asking first. Being teased for not drinking a certain amount during a night out.

It’s helpful to plan ahead and set a limit. But when it comes to peer pressure, sometimes firmly speaking up and saying ‘no’ to a drink can go a long way. It might be awkward at first, but making positive changes to your drinking and sticking to your intentions will feel empowering as time goes on.
